Mule Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Spent my lunch break pouring over the Laser-Guided Bomb Employment part of the manual. Got home and tried it out this evening. Just amazing. I fkn love it. I can now confidently hit any part of a building i want and i love the way you can switch from white hot to black hot then zoom in smoothly using DMS FORWARD and AFT to see the good work you have done. Just loving this sim. So much to learn it's made my year with regards to SIMS. I'm off to learn something else. Cheers :) 1 Fighter Pilot Podcast.
tflash Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I must agree that the GBU-12 / TGP combo is about the best sim experience ever! Superfun! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Steel Jaw Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Still learning that, have not mastered the Rifle yet, but man what a great trip learning all this stuff. Mule Posted October 23, 2010 Author Posted October 23, 2010 (edited) Still learning that, have not mastered the Rifle yet, but man what a great trip learning all this stuff. I got the rifle today. Took me awhile but the Maverick thread helped me loads. I still think the mav sensor bobs up and down to much but what the hell do i know? Really looking forward to all the JTAC stuff. I just finished an exercise with the Army where we as grunts on the ground were doing 9 liners to call in fast air and slow air on the radio. Soon as i saw 9 liners in the sim i was blown away just fantastic :) Edited October 23, 2010 by Mule Fighter Pilot Podcast.
CrashEd Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 man what a great trip learning all this stuff. Couldn't agree more. This sim rocks! :D Just getting into the JTAC stuff now - it adds another awesome dimention.
Steel Jaw Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 to call in fast air and slow air on the radio. Which one is the Hog? :megalol: "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB, monitor: GIGABYTE M32QC 32" (31.5" Viewable) QHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 165Hz.
Mule Posted October 23, 2010 Author Posted October 23, 2010 Which one is the Hog? :megalol: Well according to my Afgan TAMS it says A-10 is fast but ...........:megalol: Fighter Pilot Podcast.
SmokeyTheLung Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 (edited) Do you guys use the auto-lase function? Or do you give the weapon a few seconds to fall and then manually lase? I'm not 100% sure on the advantages/disadvantages. I have noticed that I can't really effectively redirect my LGBs once they're in the air. This is sort of remedied by using manual lase and waiting a few seconds to start guiding the weapon. (perhaps operator error/WIP) Edited October 23, 2010 by SmokeyTheLung System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
sobek Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Ideally with Paveway II, the laser should only be used for terminal flight path correction, as switching it on early makes the bomb bleed off a lot of energy due to the very basic control system. Automation takes load off the pilot. I don't know why there even is the option to lase it manually. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
SmokeyTheLung Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Interesting Sobek, that has to do with the "bang bang" type of guidance, no? Has it been your experience that LGBs can be redirected, say 50-100m, in mid flight? System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
Mule Posted October 23, 2010 Author Posted October 23, 2010 (edited) LGB'S can defiantly be redirected to a certain extent depending on hight dropped and other factors. It was famously redirected in that F-16 lgb vid when the pilot dropped the bomb in the middle of a pack of people. I will try to dig out the vid now. "oh dude" Just keep it in area mode and redirect your heart away. Edited October 23, 2010 by Mule Fighter Pilot Podcast.
sobek Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Interesting Sobek, that has to do with the "bang bang" type of guidance, no? Yes, probably among other things, i don't really know what input is available to the control algorithm, so the culprit might not only be the bang bang control, but also the absence of boundary conditions, namely the optimal flight path. Yo-Yo, care to explain? :) Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
SmokeyTheLung Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Yea, that's a heavy piece of footage. "Oh dude" sounds about right. I can't seem to get this kind of precision with in-game LGBs. If I slew the TGP around well lasing and while the weapon is in flight the bombs become wildly inaccurate. Probably user error/but perhaps due to WIP System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
Bulletstop Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 If yea love LGB's wait until the jdams, Omg heaven in a 500 to 2000lb package :). In fact did a mp with a couple of folks and I felt naked with out the Lightning pod,lol Bullet I7 4790K running at 4390 with a gigabyte board with 16 gigs of ram with an Asus gtx 660-ti and 2 tb of hard drive space on 2 wd hard drives. A X-65F Hotas with trackir4 and pro combat peddles. A kick butt home built machine unfortunately running a windows 7 OS.

Probably user error/but perhaps due to WIP LGB'S are not god bombs you still have to do a proper CCRP on them and carefully guide them in on there target. That's the fun in them you can smoothly slide them on the target. Fighter Pilot Podcast.
