Geskes Posted October 30, 2010 Author Posted October 30, 2010 (edited) Hey JHepburn, you can create a new waypoint but unfortunately it is quiet a cumbersome procedure. I think someone did a video on it but I couldn't find it just now. Got double-sniped! JHepburn Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Hey JHepburn, you can create a new waypoint but unfortunately it is quiet a cumbersome procedure. . Makes perfect sense, thanks. I'll definitely give it a try. I guess what I really want to know is... what is the best way to find the coordinates referenced in this mission? Do you guys add the waypoint to the flight plan, or is there a better way to accomplish the task (i.e. find the referenced point in order to complete the mission)? Thanks! Jeff
Geskes Posted October 30, 2010 Author Posted October 30, 2010 Oh, if you are looking to complete the mission, I made it a little easy on purpose in case pilots didn't know yet how to program coordinates. The medevac pilot was kind enough to drop some red smoke. If you just fly to your waypoint three you will see it straight ahead close to the coast. Also you'll see the boats quiet clearly as three white dots in the water. Your mission is to monitor the boats, you don't have to come near the coordinates to fire a trigger or something. Just watch the boats and listen to (or read ;)) what Romeo says. I7920/12GBDDR3/ASUS P6T DELUXE V2/MSI GTX 960 GAMING 4G /WIN 10 Ultimate/TM HOTAS WARTHOG
JHepburn Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Got the coordinates figured out. The trick is changing the dial to Mission on AAP and setting appropriate waypoint. Anyone have a good track they could post for this mission? There are a few tasks that I'm wondering how others are accomplishing.
Echonomix Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I tried this mission for the first time tonight. I did edit it so I didn't have to start the plane up. I didn't have any problems until I started orbiting at wp3. Then it just froze until I killed it with task manager. I haven't had time to try again. Do you think it would have anything to do with me changing it from ramp to runway? asus p7p55d deluxe | intel i5-750 @ stock | g.skill ripjaw 4gb | asus geforce gtx 470 @ stock | trackir 4 | thrustmaster hotas warthog | win7 home premium 64bit
deltatango Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Then it just froze until I killed it with task manager. I also get random freezes with this mission. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the large amount of AI. This mission seems to be able to be played in one of two ways: -Fly it from the cockpit, as the A10 pilot and don't look at all the other units. This is the only way I have played it and it is really great. Really immersive. -The other way is to cycle around all the cameras and watch the assault and other action. For the first method, I think you could lose a heap of the AI and still keep the immersion. Apart from the boats, red force on the island and the QRF near them, the only other AI, all I have really seen from the cockpit view is the choppers and Air defence at home base. Keep the radio messages though. Voiceovers would be great, but would take a lot resources (actors, etc) Cheers, DT Junior Member for over 6 years. Difference between Ordinance and Ordnance. Geskes Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 I've had the freezes too sometimes but it is inconsistent, it doesnt happen always. I don't know why it is caused, when you look at an autogenerated mission it has lots of AI, more then this mission. So I hope it is just a beta quirk. It might also be some error in the triggers or scripts that doesnt occur everytime. But don't even know if the missions still work with this patch there is now. I didn't notice a difference in freezing between the light version I made and the normal one, and the freeze, if it happens, always happens around the same time, before or after the IED event. Changing graphics settings doesn't help. Yes deltatango, deleting all AI the player will not see when using cockpit view only is an option, for next missions I might make such a version. The issue with this mission is that messages are triggered by the units in question so removing them also removes the messages. I am not going to tweak it anymore since we're in beta still so maybe next-time. I do thrust though that things will get more stable as we progress so mission can be larger. For this mission lots of AI were not part of player mission but in the regular CAS mission you just need a decent amount of AI that is part of player mission. Voiceovers also really sweet :) But that I will only consider implementing for missions once final version is out. MemphisBelle Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I tried the mission as well and I really have to agree all the posters before. It´s an awesome mission geskes...well done. I´d like to know if anyone is interested to give the radiomessages a voice? It´s working quite well, I tested with one of my own. All we´d need are some guys who get assigned the Characters to. BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection

"RAWWWWR NORTH OF THE SMOKE!!!" :p In all seriousness I've been thinking the same thing about custom made campaigns...the radio messages need voices but how do we import them into the game? Having some realistic voices for chatter and certain comments / responses / messages would be brilliant. Echonomix Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I agree that voice overs would be great, but I wouldn't really bother until: a: the mission is nearing final release version and... b: dcs: warthog is out of beta You may end up doing lots of work only for it to be incompatible with the retail version of the sim. I don't know enough about the mission editor to know if it would be a simple process to bring a mission up to date or not, or if it would even be required to do so. Also: When I started after I changed the player from 'start from ramp' to 'runway', it started me out viewing one of the ai planes and only after 10-25 seconds of watching and flipping around the various ai planes, did I get plopped into my a-10. asus p7p55d deluxe | intel i5-750 @ stock | g.skill ripjaw 4gb | asus geforce gtx 470 @ stock | trackir 4 | thrustmaster hotas warthog | win7 home premium 64bit
Geskes Posted December 26, 2010 Author Posted December 26, 2010 Uploaded v1.3 I had already done some tweaks but infantry didnt work in b3 so it wasnt worth it to release also because of stability. Now infantry works again and havent had any crashes so here it is. There is an issue with the target boats LOD and it will not show from range. I have solved this by having them pop flares in different colors for each boat. Now they are quite easy to spot and track. In TGP you can see the model when you are not very far off. dane48 Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Geskes, am I missing something? I did this mission when you first put it up some weeks ago and tried the new version. It appears as a MP to me and not a single player mission. I tried to add a plane and make me the "player" but unable to edit this. Now i was trying in the 64 bit version, maybe I will have to give it a go in the other style? I just don't know. I read the mission over again but perhaps I don't understand something. Thanks. PS. I should say I view all of the other aircraft but not mine. "To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home."-----anonymous
nomdeplume Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Did you try waiting / accelerating time for 4 minutes? The last notes were that he's set a 4 minute intro window (delay before spawning the player aircraft?) to workaround the increased INS alignment time.

Embarassed to say I really didn't know what spawning met, but now it makes sense. Will give it a try this afternoon. Thanks much "To most people, the sky is the limit. Geskes Posted December 26, 2010 Author Posted December 26, 2010 Correct, player aircraft will spawn about 4 minutes (don't know exact but it spawns at 11:44:30) after mission start. You can either cycle trough some AI views or accelerate time. I think I should've mentioned this in the welcome message. dane48 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 And it worked sweet! Wonderful mission. I enjoyed it when it first came out and even more now- though I took some fire from the armed boat and was shot down. Never got to where the real action was. I'll be doing more of this one "To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home."-----anonymous
Geskes Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 Added 2 player coop, day and night. Added some extra targets. Wasnt able to test it with clients myself yet so if you decide to fly it and find that the AI doesnt take off or similar MP related issues occur, let me now and I'll fix it. Original mission runs in release, only on closing the mission you'll get a lua error. Same holds true for the coops as they are edited from the original. Let me know on issues. dne48 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Wondering if there are any other real life A-10 missions out there other than a few vague ones that I saw in the book (I no longer have) about the A-10 (it was not the A-10C of course) in Iraq. I've searched the internet and didn't expect to find anything but it would be interesting to see more. And I doubt it would have much to do with national security issues any longer.. At least I would think not. Just some thoughts. I thoroughly enjoyed this one "To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home."-----anonymous
Jive Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Chiming in to say that I just finished this mission in co-op with a friend and we both thought it was excellent. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work, Geskes
