Hi guys, that's the biggest doubt I have right now. I modified a joystick to convert it to a throttle, but not everything work well.

The pot that works as the throttle works fine, but the other two pots assigned to to the x and y axis, don't work as they do before modding. When testing them in the game controller test panel, they just travel only the half of the way they used to do, and sometimes the game recognizes the three pots and sometimes only the throttle pot but not the other ones.

I checked the wires and they are properlly connected and no mismatched, the soldering is not broken, so the only thing that comes to my mind is, could be the wire used, the reason of the malfunction?

In case you ask what is the kind of cable that comes in the joystick, it's very thin silver cable with many little ones, don't know how to describe it better, but I'm sure you can make an idea of the kind of cable. And the one used for the modding, is the typical 8 wires utp cable used for networks.

I would really appreciate your answer because I'm considering to buy a ch fighterstick joystick and extend it, and that implies cut, soldering and use a different kind of cable, that the one used from factory, and don't want to have the same result with such a fine piece of game controller.

Thanks in advance

This sounds to me more like your modification is not utilizing the full range of the pots i.e. 0-5v. Calibration software should be able to compensate for some under utilization but if only a portion is being used i.e. 2.5V-5V. The calibration software may not be able to compensate. The first thing I would suggest is double checking voltages being output by the pots. Because the current used for these applications is very low, wire size is really not a consideration you should be concerned about. Im not an expert in how the software calibration works, but from an electrical standpoint, wire size doesnt need to be a consideration.

When I modified my Thottle of HOTAS cougar and replaced the pot with DYI hall sensor I had issue where axis travel was not sufficient... I got it sorted by flushing the Cougar firmware and since then it works fine. Maybe you have an option to recalibrate/flush the stick in similar way.

The option of flushing the firmware sound good, but the joystick used is a generic one and unfortunately don't have that option, however I will try to recalibrate the pots and see if it works.

About a picture will be a little bit difficult, because I verified the wiring before assembling it, but I will take a picture of it tonight.

And about the question of the wire, can I use the same utp cable for modding the ch fighterstick, and if not, what is the best kind of wire for modding game controls?

No time for testing the pots, very busy week at work, but here are some pictures of the throttle and the cockpit I'm working on, hope to finish it before December.

try to set in a capacity between +5 volt and ground..it should plane the problem!)

nice and creative work.. i had some same ideas with my X52 pro throttle..

so keep it up,..looking great so far..with some resin,..you can form the handle more egonomic as one inspiration..but i like the DIY artwork in here!)

cheers
