You know I lied. The real question on my mind is why y'all still flying this dinosaur? You know it's long in the tooth when Kamov's renaming it Ka-50 Megalodon! The exclamation for the hearing impaired. :D

OUT! :pilotfly:

Whelp I have to be honest, when I first bought it I was only doing so to support the only company doing really hard core sims. I found after about 5 hours flight time I fell in love with it. In fact I still fire it up just to fly, no missions just take her for a spin... So I am in love with a dinosaur but it is a fun dinosaur :)...

Same here as with Bulletstop -- in fact, I suspect many people here initially said "I don't want to plod around in a helicopter" but gave ED the $50 just as a "thank you for existing" kind of thing ... then tried it out and found they loved it.

SOOOOO, if you DON'T play BS because you "don't want to plod around in a helicopter," I recommend just buying it anyway ... and maybe trying it out ...

I hated the thing at first. Then I figured out how to fly it. Then it was being a PITA and I could not employ weapons on anything smaller than the side of a mountain. Then I figured out how to aim a bit better and get into stable hovers and take out a row of tanks. Now its a pretty fun ship. I can even hit things with rockets while flying in at 175+IAS and avoiding AAA. Damn SAMs are still pesky though.

My case ;)

Why would I still fly it even though I would have A-10 module? Because Ka-50 is hard to fly in combat conditions and for me the harder it is, the bigger satisfaction. Well, up to a point of course. Because, opposite to what some may think, crawling near the ground at 150 kph may give a stronger sense of flying than loitering at 5000 m.

Потому что это российский!

I might even skip the Warthog... maybe :D

Because it's the best simulation of a rotary winged aircraft available for a personal computer, anywhere in the known universe, and just flying it around is awesome? Dunno about anyone else, but that's reason enough for me... :)

Nah. I love the Megalodon. Don't know if it's just me but I feel, after spending so much time in the HOG, I had to put on a different mindset when I switched to flying the Kamov. I don't recall feeling that way with MSFS or X-plane when switching between fixed wings and helicopters.

I love that vid, Bucic!

Because it's one cool motherf*ker of a chopper, that's why. Any other worries I can help you with?

Sure, the Black Shark does not have a FLIR or turreted optics, but it remains a deadly piece of work that is a pleasure to fly.

Granted, I personally think that a single-crewed helicopter is a bit iffy, if only because having an extra pair of eyes is a bit iffy... but then again its not like the Hog has a co-pilot either.

I guess the difference is that demands of low-level helicopter piloting are such that it is better to have a second crewman to take on the observer/gunner role, who can then have a better SA of the surroundings and lay fire where needed.

But for its original purpose of tank and vehicle hunting at long range using its Vikhrs or its accurate main gun (for softer targets), I'm not sure the Black Shark is worse off than other gunships. Substitute an infrared camera for the Skhval with the upgraded targeting avionics, and you would probably have a rival to the Apache.

That is, so long as we stick to the classic cold-war tank/vehicle hunting role. But I really wouldn't want to be doing COIN work in a black shark. Having another pair of eyes and not having to point the A/C where I'm shooting is a tremendous advantage for conventional gunships.

Of course, the Black Shark does afford us the opportunity to fly the complete package on our own, without having a simulated AI pilot/gunner riding with us.
