kingneptune117 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Hey guys, I find it a lot more fps friendly to record "Half size" in fraps. Is this what most of you guys do? I want the quality to be at least youtube 720p, which it usually is when I record full. Will it look ok if I record at half? HiJack Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Yes that would be good. If your screen resolution is 1920x1080 then it halfs that and fits exactly the 720p for release to youtube.

If you have access to editing software (Vegas etc etc ), just capture the track with FRAPS at half or even quarter SIM speed. Then render at full speed at editing. slamraamproductions Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I record always in half or less track speed for smooth fps. <==DCS Flaming Cliffs 3: Operation Grand Slam <==Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 2 Tribute
Heli Shed Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 .25 here - 10fps, locked - vegas pro then does its magic. Come pay us a visit on YouTube - search for HELI SHED
kylania Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Hmm.. crazy, never thought to do that. I just record hundred of gigs of full screen, full FPS avis, then smash it all together. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
HiJack Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Well, if you record live when playing then half size fraps will do the trick.
rexehuk Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 (edited) For quality comparison... I shot this @ 2048x1152 And I shot this @ HALF frame (1024x576) First time shooting half frame for me, but was very pleased with the results. (All recorded at 30FPS) Edited October 30, 2010 by rexehuk
Headspace Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 The half speed trick is really neat, especially since I find that the internal AVI generator takes a great deal of time compared to fraps. Give it a shot.
kingneptune117 Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 .25 here - 10fps, locked - vegas pro then does its magic. hey, could you please explain this method? I dont get it. In fraps there is now 1/4 option it is only half or full. And I please explain how vegas does its magic, or how to make it do that. And you record at only 10FPS?!?! kylania Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 First time shooting half frame for me, but was very pleased with the results. First video is nice, but the second looks pretty poor. Tons of splotches, extremely difficult to read text (hud/labels would be mere shapes). It was smooth, but really low quality. It was smooth, but really low quality. Yes, but also more than 15x smaller in size! The cockpit resolution is due to WIP texturing, I did notice full screen on external view though the blotts etc, windowed looks quite nice though.
