No, I'm not a cheap bastard but a broke bastard that's dying to try the AFM. But my friend is a machinist so there is hope. :D

I am going to get a set of CH Hotas in a couple of months which will deplete my gaming budget. And it'll be awhile until I can save enough for rudder pedals with a baby on the way in 4 months, so I am seriously going to attempt and make a set of pedals for myself. What I would like to know is what's involved in wiring such a device to USB port? And would I have to write a sofware for it or what. Some of you must be electronic gurus.

Also, if this rudder is a success, I'd like to make race car sumulation pedals for myself.

Thanks in advance.

Ok Dude heres what you can do:

OPTION 1

You can connect your rudder pedals to a standard gameport joystick using an adapter. The only question here is which pins the pot from your pedals connects too. From there your USB joystick can be configured for normal axis etc While gameport joystick is used for rudder axis only (which is what I'm currently doing){FC accepts this} Alternately run the wires for either roll or pitch axis to your pedals and make FC think your roll axis is rudder pedals!

OPTION 2

USB might be harder to do however 8 bit and 16 bit joystick USB controllers can be purchased or home made. As well as that you can also later on add to it other switches and axis for things like split throttle, home made hotas and also switches for weapons and mfds etc.

My suggestion do a google search on wiring of game ports to find out which wire on the plug does rudder axis. And just fit an adapter directly to an old gameport joystick.

For USB option

Hello Leafer!

I built my rudder pedals with an Firestorm Dual Analog 2 Gampad (it took me about 8 hours) ,so I don´t had to programm anything. I can use all 12 buttons and have toebrakes. My english is not quite well so the photos have to speak for me ;)

Very nice job urze!

It looks like you built your pc right into that desk/base, is that right?

SUBS17,

Thanks a bunch for the info. I googled and found a nice page with wiring diagram from potention meter to gameport. But that URL u gave me is even better! Thanks.

urze,

Nice set up you got! Cool! :D

Thanks for the photos, it was inspiring. To the drawing board I go.

I plan on building everthing using low grade aluminum - they are cheap in my country. I'm going to start on a go-kart like frame for the cockpit then Ill build the rudder right into it.

I'll post pics when it's done. Gonna be a while.

Cheers
