Hey, not sure if anyone has already posted about this, or even if anyone is interested, but;

I decided to setup a voice command system, to be able to navigate the communications menu through voice inputs. Essentially it means, whilst in game, I use one of my HOTAS keys (or the MIC switch) to open the comms menu, then I give single number voice commands which correlate to one of the F-keys. You could also configure it in more depth so that instead of single number voice commands you could say "Flight" and that would press the F2-key and you could map it to the proper in-game commands. Too much effort for me!! It just means whilst flying you dont have to manually press the F-keys if your keyboard is in a awkward place whilst using HOTAS. Which I find a pain.

The program which converts voice commands into keystrokes is: http://www.killerssoftware.com/

Other than that all you have to do is have a decent enough mic and setup Speech in Windows.

Hope this is useful to someone!

VR Commander is a good little program, the lack of voice training does mean that occasionally commands are mixed up. But aslong as you define clear enough words or phrases it works great. I say lack of, its not a bad thing at all. Makes it very quick an easy to use and great for multiple users.

Considering the price is only $9.95, i'd say its well worth it. Also has a 15 day free trial.

I've had VAC for years and used that a lot with F4AF.

Even had a voice macro that would do a ramp start. :D

I would totally recommend VAC as well, I only used it for the 30 day trial, but in that time it worked almost flawlessly. It has voice training, you can program multiple profiles for different games. I went so far as to map each menu item such as 'wingman attack air defences', and this made it so easy in the heat of battle, as well as in the leadup to battle, if coming headon with a small group of mig-29's in the f-15 AWACS kill mission in fc1.12, as soon as I reached the 3rd wpt I would tell my wingman 'go pincer right', so he heads off to the right and a mig starts to split off and track him, so I go full burners and we intercept him with aim-120's while his buddy is high and dry behind him and we reengage the second mig successfully. It just goes to show how intuitive the voice commands can make it.

I'd imagine in dcs a-10c it would be almost indispensible, for instance when working with a jtac, no fumbling through comms menus, just speak and it will be done, job done, bomb dropped, target destroyed and happy days.

Just imagine a 7" touchscreen with TouchBuddy with all the comms at a fingertip. The screen is between my Cougar MFD's, right in front of my keyboard. I love voice control, but I really don't like gaming with a headset.

I use touchbuddy (a little bit) and I use VAC. And I have a couple of X-keys keyboards. Throw in the TM MFDs and you have a lot of combinations there.

It is a lot of programming, to be sure, but uou get a ton of overlap in terms of commands, which I find is good. Generally I use the voice commands for radio commands, which is more realistic, but I can also pull up that page on TB as well. Same with all the various external views.

Right now I am just working on getting it all programmed for FSX and FC2, probably going to ditch F4:AF completely now that this DCS A10C is coming out. Man, it is just a lot of programming, but very cool.

EDIT: I really cannot say enough about VAC. Best value out there for the money (what is it now, $20 or less?).

@Slammin: I agree if you mean aircraft commands! But the communication to tower or groundcrew like "request takeoff", "rearm Jdam", "refuel 70%" ...is designated for voice commands.
