I have two doubts:

I m building a rampag3 3 gene, I 7950 probably O/ced at 3.5 /3.7,4gb 1600 gskill ram cld 7, GTX 460 hawk pSU extreme 650.

Thinking on a future upgrade as +4gb ram, SLI on the hawk, processor increase

1 PSU for future, what to get without having a hair dryer (IE overkill) as PSU ? Is 750 enought ?

2: I7 cooling, OCing need better cooling, fried chips of this kind are indigest.

Here cooling is limited and uncheap, so it resumes in:

212+ suck to blow (or would it blow to suck) AKA push pull for 100 USD;

Cooler Master V10 for around 150,00 USD;

H50 corsair liquid for 150,00 USD.

I m a bit wary of liquid cooler, if the pump fail goodby all.

I ll apreciate any help.

1) Get a PSU with a large fan (low sound, good cooling :) ). If you're going to o/c, and go for SLI etc, I would play it on the safe side and get a 850 watt psu.

2) DONT get the CM V10! It's rubbish!, too big, and doesn't cool all too well.. H50 is ok I guess, I have no experience with it. And the downside: pump failure as you said ;)

If you're going for air cpu cooling: go for the noctua nh-d14. It's not as big as the v10, but it cools better. It's very quiet, and cools superb.

Hope this helps

1. I'm using a 720 PSU at the moment which is plenty, though I think if I was going to purchase a new one today I'd probably go for something around 800-850 just to give me a bit more head room for the future.

2. I love my H50 best cooler I've ever had. And I've had some monster in my tower in the past.

If the pump fails it will be exactly the same as a normal heatsink fan failing because it is powered by the same motherboard connector. So if it fails the alarm will go off and the PC will shut down. Plus being water cooled it will shut down at a much lower temp compared to a normal air heatsink.

To be safe I bought a retail CPU which comes with the standard cooler. That way should my H50 ever fail I have a backup to use whilst the H50 is sent back for a replacement.

I've not heard of any H50's failing, so if they do it must be very rare.

Over the v10 i ve seen both... better than the H50 and way worst. Its bulky but it also cool your ram and your MTB chip.

So no need of ram/chip cooler for OC.

But its big and since my MTB will stay vertical it will pull strain on the base.

So i guess maybe let ir off.

So nobody for the 212+ double fan..

H50 its the way then. The radiator is outside the case, behind ? If so i have to check space.

I haven t heard of H50 failure then neither have heard of total fan failure. What i ve heard is lack of maintainace leading to considerable underperformance.

But the way things are now my PC cool down the room, normal temp here are 25-35c and i m not sure a water cooler can cool more than ambient temp.

Noctua ain t sold around here, so its no game. I ve put the top 3 that are present here on Brazil then i could find without an overextortion. Its pretty limited. Some thing are sold here in such an overprice that it is cheaper to do a direct import.

I dont bother with noise, but 1000 what is like 600 USD around here, n oway i gnna shell that kind of money in it without necessity. PC is on the office so noise aint an issue.

But thanks for the input anyway.

Well one of the pluses for the H50 is that you don't get dust clogging up the fins of the heatsink and fan as you do with normal cooling methods.

Radiator & fan are mounted inside the case. You can see MadDogs setup here in the 5th post http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61155

Yeah i saw Mad dog settings, and its really neat.

But since my stting has the huge Haf fan on the side pushing air in, i guess show off is out of the way.

I guess i will have to look if i can find a 212+ push pull VS H50 on the net. The diference is almost what i need to double my ram. 4 -> 8.

Not sure if 8 does that diference

Or 1/3 of an SSD SLC 32gb that would zero micro stutter for the most HD demanding applications.

Umm another contender entered the market.. then:

H 50, 150 USD

212+ pull push - 50 USD

Zalmann X10 - quiet/flex ? 150 USD

Which one ?

My case can take easely any of them.

x10? You mean the v10?

In all seriousness, if you mean the v10: don't do it. You can get better cooling, for less. My vote would go to the noctua nh-d14, it has 1 140mm and 1 120mm fan, in a push-pull configuration.

I mean Zalmann X10 quiet/flex.

Arght i sayd i can t get a noctua because there isn t any on the market.

I only displayed what i can grab:(.

No i sayd:P, what i edited was the name cooler master to zalmann:doh:

H50 then, i not sure i ve seen an extreme on the market. But some give more credit to the quiet.. with another fan.

Unable to find a good 2010 review on cooling

True, but you get the dust covering your fans and radiator instead which is a much harder job to clean since dust gets trapped on the rads fins and is a pain in the arse to clean.

If the OP can, I would advise him to get the corsair h70 instead of the h50, provides better cooling, especially for an overclock and also is a much shorter pump which is easier to fit compared to the tall h50, the h70 also has flexible tubing to a degree which the h50 doesnt.

As for power units, if you are buying a corsair power unit then dont go for the TX series, go for the HX series, the HX are much better power supplies and a HX 850 will be more than ample for your rig.

Well i actualy found a Noctua 14... things change so fast....So now i am like H 50 or Noctua 14 ?

Noctua 14 on a gene i fear for memory slots.

But for the H50 match the noctua i have to put another fan at least...

They are the same price

H 70 is 60 USD more than H50 not worth it.

Doubts doubts.. each reviews, article bring more doubts.

i dont want my I 950 at 4 Ghz, 3.5 is more than enought.

By the way thanks for the help guys:thumbup:

if its gene II m-atx and you only plan to use 3 of the memory slots, then the noctua cooler baaaarely fits in... but it fits with the OcZ reaper`s in using atleast :) using it here..

by 3 slots i mean xoxoxo not xxxooo

o being slotted and x empty

I bought the monster Coolermaster V8 before the H50 and I can't begin to tell you how poorly it performed. The H50 (or try the H70) is a dream to install and just DOES IT'S JOB! No fuss, no bother, no fins to clog up with dust (as FD pointed out). Come on, be a water-baby :-)

I just found i bought memory unoptimized for X58...

Should have bought tripple channel memory, right now the local i bought it don t have tripple channel... I think i m gonna cry.

Extreme iii accept H50 and Noctua 14.

But now if i change memory, most tripple channeled have fancy dissipator so i don t know if noctua 14 will let me fit them in. This thing is bigger than the ID4 mothership!!!!

Well, seeking internet info:book:. If someone know something please point me in the right direction.

Memory with tall heatsinks. :( In this day with DDR3 running at 1.65v and even less you really have to question the need for big tall heatsinks on anything but the fastest sticks.

Noctua do have a memory compatibility page for the NH-D14. In fact MTFDarkEagle has posted a link to it in a few posts earlier than this.

Also as an owner of a Noctua NH-D14 it didn't interfere with my Corsair sticks but they don't have the tall heatsinks on them. Another option is that you can raise the outer 120mm fan higher so that it doens't interfere with your RAM sticks.

Hey cool, do you have the double fan of the noctua or you went the insane tripple fan ? i ll seek that list, when Dark posted Noctua wasn t even being sold.

I think i ll go noctua it got better results in 100% of the reviews at stock and its cheaper. Ripjaws does not present any problem to him nor does my motherboard so its game. My only concern now is space with the lateral fan of the case, but it should work.

The H 50 watercooling have mixed results over time especially in hot ambient and thats my case.

Thanks all for the imputs i m a wiser man now.
