Arkham Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Wow, is it so much easier to do things in the sim with a proper hotas setup, rather than fumbling with the joystick and keyboard. And its much easier to remember what hat switches do what, than try to memorize "ok, the TDR is left control up..." Next on my list is a trackIR.

Now I could actually click on China Hat Forward instead of remembering that was Pinky Switch + Thumb Button. :) TrackIR will totally change the game for you, it's awesome. I see its being sold by a few small online retailers but none of them have it in stock. I was a non believer, but i saw the IR ! And NOW i believe. There only a problem, it will make you want to have an even better stick or a half pit, while a stick don t necessarily make you want having a track ir or a pit. HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD. Track IR 5, Hall sensed Cougar, Hall sensed TM RCS TM Warthog(2283), TM MFD, Saitek pro combat rudder, Cougar MFD.

Just ordered one yesterday afternoon. Should have it next week sometime. I ordered the TrackIR 5. I have been flight simming for years and have used a hatch switch. I am hoping the TrackIr will take it to another level. I would be happy to just be able to look over my shoulder and see the engines start, or be able to get to the switches in front of the Stick. HELL I would like to be able to see the Nav board without having to quickly throw the stick into a left or right bank to see if my Tacan or Steerpoint is engaged!

Worth the upgrade? i had 4 that met an untimely end and could only get a 5. worth the upgrade? depends how much more you have to pay. if you want to improve the 4 you could get the clip pro emitter, and not just the reflector clip. i have found performance is marginally better but it could be due to the 5 version software and/or the clip pro. if it anit broke dont fix it. If you have 4, I wouldn't upgrade to 5. 5 does have higher resolutions and is smoother off the bat. So you odon't have to use as much smoothing. However the same settings and effect can be obtained through tweaking your 4 easily. However if you're a new buyer or replacing a broken 4 (like me), there's no reason not to go to 5. It's only like $20-30 more expensive.

andysim Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Head Tracking (any type) is the best upgrade you can make for flight sims, It also works in lots of other games (Arma2 etc).
