Hello!

I want to know that if I go to start, then if I type msconfig, then under the tab start, then again under advanced options, and finaly under cores numbers, if I change the values that I am having now, like from 1 core to 4 or 8 core, will it improve the stability to the very laggy A-10C Beta or any of my games and/or will it damage my PC, if I change those values.

I have an Intel Core i7 Extreme 975, over clock at 4.20.

IF you have HT enabled you will have 8 cores (only 4 physical other 4 logical)

Lowering the number will reduce your performance probably

For myself I use a i7 920 but disable HT (it causes stuttering in some games)

You can disable HT in bios if you like

Whats the meaning of HT, I have no idea, what you mean by HT

Doing that only boots your computer up without the use of all the cores, you would be better of doing the same thing in your motherboards bios, as that will have a option to disable the cores.

Or you could also just disable hyperthreading in the bios and see if that helps, but to be honest, you should probably leave those options untouched.

If you are getting problems witht he beta, then you have to remember it is a beta and isnt optimised and is likely to cause these problems.

If you really want to change the core options, it wont damage your pc, it will only slow it down.

I picked up a slight FPS increase in A10C by disabling HT in the BIOS.

Yea, disabling HT is a fix for a good few games, its a better solution than disabling cores ( if it works ), but usually thats for games that have a problem with HT in general.

I dont know about A10C, but I havent heard if it suffers from problems when HT is enabled. Personally, I would look at his overall system as to why he is having problems with A10C, rather than start disabling stuff, I would think it's either a software problem or a hardware or hardware misconfiguration problem.

Thats where I would start looking, before I would even think about disabling stuff.

If anything, I would disable HT only, I would leave the cores well alone.

I wonder if anyone can help.

I have a very bloated win7 64 instal and attemted to disable HT in the BIOS. As seen in my sig its a fairly decent rig and I figured to try and increase game performance.

After booting with HT disabled windows loaded but then hung.

Q. does it need to go through all the 2.5 TB of data on my numerous HDD before it is ready to perform without HT??

I have enabled HT back and now windows loads as it should!

Any ideas please:thumbup:

When I see the word bloated I think reformat. You might want to consider possibly reformatting your OS drive and start from scratch. If you have a well organized backup plan a reformat of your hard drive with Windows 7 is an easy task. You have a top of the line rig there and you shouldn't be experiencing serious performance problems.

Cpu function changes can ruin an OS. For example:when we got dual core AMD cpu's. Some systems could not take just dropping in a dual core chip and going on with life like nothing happened. The whole OS had to be reinstalled.
