Does anyone know why the IFF panel uses the word "OUT" instead of "OFF"?

Also, are the TEST switches two position on-off or are they three position on-on-on or on-off-on? They are not functioning in the sim, so I can't check their operation.

The manual does not mention the number of positions for these switches as it does for others.

Thanks!

The test switches are 3 position, and the up position is momentary.

I actually picked up one of these panels from either a Skyhawk or Phantom (AFAIK). It appears nearly identical to the one in the A-10.

By IFF panel do you mean CMSP panel or do you mean the CMSC panel? If you're seeing CMSC showing "OUT" it might mean you are out of flares or chaff.

They absolutely function in the sim. Try both right clicking and left clicking. The spring-loaded up function on the JMR for example runs a BIT for the ALQ-131.

EDIT: Whoops, you're talking about the actual IFF panel, not any of the CMS panels. Forgot about that silly thing.

Thanks Feed!! Is the OUT the same as OFF for those switches?

Frederf - I am referring to the IFF panel on the left console under the SAS panel.

Unfortunately I have absolutely NO idea how the unit actually works - I just picked it up since it looked the part and the price was right. :/

for the CODE knob, position HOLD is momentary. For position ZERO, you have to pull in order to turn to that position. Similarly for MASTER knob you have to pull to turn to EMER position.

Besides the 4 test switches that are momentary for the UP position like Feed said, so are the RAD test switch and the IDENT switch, all 3 position.

Audio/light is normal 3 position switch.

Mode 4 switch you have to pull to toggle.

And of course the two special press-to-test switches at the top you'd have to get from ebay. you can press and also rotate them.

the thumbwheels are spring loaded, such that there is some resistance when you turn them, and they 'jump' to the next number once you turn > 50%.

if you can do all the above it'd be as good as the real panel!

Thanks!

According the manual, the EMER position on the master dial and the entire Code dial are not used in the sim. I'll wait and see if that changes, but if not, I'll just be using a rotatry selector for the master mode dial.

Also trying to decide how I'll implement the thumbwheels. I've seen a few on ebay that weren't too pricey, so I may order one to test it out.

Appreciate the info!

Eve'ning gents,

After getting my hands on some of these, I thought I'd post the part numbers of the on-off-(on) switches that are on the IFF panel. I pulled these from the panel that Deadman linked to on ebay. I was fortunate enough to get that - thanks Deadman for the heads up!!

There are actually some of these available on ebay currently for $10 each, which is better than the $66 or so they sell for new. :)
