Avatar72 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Has anyone heard anything about the Saitek COMBAT rudder pedals? The last official piece of information was back in July or so and I dont even see one online vendor setting up presales. I have my TM Warthog HOTAS but I cant do jack S without rudders and I dont want to buy the previous Saitek Rudder... http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/compedals.html
topdog Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I've been making 'grrrr' sounds at Saitek's website for the last few weeks over lack of any updates. All I've seen from them is talk about taking them to a couple of shows to show them off, but no word on actual release. I have just under 2 weeks to get some solid info on a release about those pedals before I will likely need to cave in and get something else anyway. If they're too much I might just settle for regular Saitek ones too, I'd likely not spend over £200 on pedals, £125 is about my limit as far as impulsive buying of them would be, anything over that and I'd reconsider. Avatar72 Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 ugh..end of the year...I guess ill have to settle for something else. What an untapped market too. There's not much to choose from.
Sov13t Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 The Saitek Pro pedals are really good and comfortable, I would argue that they are more comfortable than the Combat ones due to the heel rest on them. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 51st PVO Regiment | Forum | Statistics DCS: MiG-21Bis
Avatar72 Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 Sov13t, Good point. Another thing to consider is that the dumb things are under the desk...you hardly ever see them. I just keep reading conflicting reviews about the original saitek pedals and their sturdiness. One person loves them while another hates them for being too "delicate". I cant imagine having to be hard on them....its just yaw control for crying out loud.
JaseGill Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Hi guys, I bit the bullet and bought the ones available now a few weeks ago after I realised I couldnt be bothered waiting for the Combat one. My impressions are: 1. Well built, 2. Good spread between pedals, though prefered my TM Elites as they were wider, 3. Spikey pots and strangely not very good at centering. I needed a good 7 - 10% deadzone on the rudders themselves and to reverse the brake pedals in A10C (cant say that was a problem but it did flumox me for a while). I'd buy them again, though if the Combat Pedals are less spikey (are they Hall Effect ?) Id be temped to wait. That said, I cant fly without pedals even in fast movers, it just doesnt feel right and in the A10C I'd say they are a neccesity if only for NWS and crosswind landings. I fly for real too, have fixed and rotary wing stick and rudder time, and it just doesnt feel right without something to rest my feet on. That could just be a real life pilot habit thing though. J. UFFF crappy stuff. 10% of deadzone right away ? I pray my game->usb adapt will work with my TM RCS. 104th_Crunch Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 CH Pro pedals- Disadvantages - a little narrow. Center physical notch Advantages -High quality, durable and accurate I never ever had to use a deadzone on my CH stuff.
brewber19 Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Ditto what Crunch said ;) Saitek pedals too imprecise. CH Pro pedals- Disadvantages - a little narrow. Center physical notch Advantages -High quality, durable and accurate I never ever had to use a deadzone on my CH stuff. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 487th Helicopter Attack Regiment, of the VVS504 Red Hammers
S77th-konkussion Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Agreed- CH top quality if not a little bit homely compared to these upcoming Saiteks. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Succellus Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 CH Pro pedals- Disadvantages - a little narrow. Center physical notch Advantages -High quality, durable and accurate I never ever had to use a deadzone on my CH stuff. Too narrow for someone around 6 feets even with narrow tight, my case. The pedals are designed in spacing for kids. They must have midgets as testers. High quality ? Well plastic is resistant i ll grant that. But the pots i had to change them in 3 years, and i throwed the towel down. Too spiky. I bought a 10 years old RCS put some hall sensor. Suffice to say they where used by the marines to train their pilots. While i was seeking to buy one, a guy was selling them by 4 he had 3 containers full of them. But the shipping was a no go. No deadzone i agree. HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD. Griffin Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I don't have to use any deadzone on my Saiteks. They are pretty precise and comfortable. No complaints unlike with X52 Pro which had major issues. I can't really compare to others as these are the only ones I've had but I'm happy with them. For quality, CH is always superior.
jazjar Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Are the ELITE pedals from thrustmaster available anymore? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Avatar72 Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 I've seen some TM elite rudders on ebay but dont they use a gameport connection?
LawnDart Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I've seen some TM elite rudders on ebay but dont they use a gameport connection? The Elites are not sold anymore, and if fact haven't been for many years. You can often find a used pair on eBay. They use a 15-pin gameport, but you can use them with a gameport-USB adapter. Also, if you own a Cougar they are plugged into the base of the unit and then the Cougar's USB is plugged into the computer. (Either solution works with the Warthog). Cubby makes Hall Sensor mods for the Elites and RCS, here. Succellus Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 RCS are way better than Elite. If you can get them, they are also gameport connected.
