Ninjaofdoom Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Hey all, New BS pilot here. I had not read that the 1.02 patch breaks training until it was too late :music_whistling: I downloaded a 'Dragon's Training missions' pack or some such from here, but it appears broken. No matter how many times I go over the manual/watch Youtube, the APU will not stay running. I'm suspecting incompatability somehow because when I gave up and used WIN+Home, the helicopter kept hitting switches as though the engines were firing, but they were not. Amazing sim, cant wait to start the heli :pilotfly: Cheers Someday we'll look back on all this and plow into a parked car. i7-930 @ 3.8ghz, 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600, EVGA GTX470, OCZ 60GB SSD, TrackIR 5 Pro, Win7 64 And a 46" LCD at 1920x1080 to enjoy the goodness :joystick: :pilotfly:
TeeJay82 Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 In order to use the cheat startup you must be in a cold and dark cockpit (no switches touched) to get the apu running you need Battery - On Fuel Pumps - On Apu Shutoff valve - Off Eninge starter switch - Apu and press start on the engine panel no need to start it up according to the vids, you can do it mostly as you like
Ninjaofdoom Posted November 27, 2010 Author Posted November 27, 2010 Yea, when I used the cheat, it was from a fresh/nothing touched cockpit. APU winds up, and then back down to nothin. >< Someday we'll look back on all this and plow into a parked car. i7-930 @ 3.8ghz, 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600, EVGA GTX470, OCZ 60GB SSD, TrackIR 5 Pro, Win7 64 And a 46" LCD at 1920x1080 to enjoy the goodness :joystick: :pilotfly:

deephack Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 APU winding up and then down again signifies that there is no fuel supply. Check fore and aft pumps are running and then open the APU fuel valve. 1 https://www.youtube.com/user/deephack
pingo Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 On those missions you need to refuel first, then your good to go ;) Up there the world is divided into bastards and suckers. Make your choice. Ninjaofdoom Posted November 27, 2010 Author Posted November 27, 2010 Got that. >< Love this sim, so much detail I am bound to forget something almost every time haha. All the videos I've watched just turned on the external power and went to town, as opposed to requesting it from the ground crew. Once I solved that, I realized that there wasnt something wrong with the guage, I just had no fuel... Got the engines started and then got the ACCUM warning on the Ekran. Now figuring out if I left the batteries on lol. Thanks to everyone for the replies and links. My x52 Pro is not here yet, so I'm studying the cold start procedures (everything immediately went to full simulation :) ). Cheers! Someday we'll look back on all this and plow into a parked car. i7-930 @ 3.8ghz, 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600, EVGA GTX470, OCZ 60GB SSD, TrackIR 5 Pro, Win7 64 And a 46" LCD at 1920x1080 to enjoy the goodness :joystick: :pilotfly:
Yurgon Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) Just a tiny addition: to operate the APU, only the aft fuel tank is needed. In the section labeled "Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Control" the manual reads: To power on the APU, you must first satisfy the following conditions: Electrical power on (batteries or ground power source) Aft fuel tank pumps turned on. In case the aft tank is empty you can supply the APU from the forward tank after opening the cross feed valve Open the APU fuel shutoff valve Set the Engine / APU select switch to the APU position Press the engine start button I don't think this is relevant for the actual start-up procedure because one usually switches on both forward and aft fuel tank shutoff valves and boost pumps before APU start. But I had this lurking feeling only one of the tanks was needed for APU operation, so I did half an hour of digging in the manual and learned some things about X-feed valve and some other system while I was looking for the answer. :-) PS: Welcome to the forums, Ninjaofdoom! Edited November 28, 2010 by Yurgon Forgot to greet the recruit :-)
