alphie Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I did a search but didnt find any results. Is there anyway to increase the text size in the HUD? It is so flipping small I can barely read it and when I move forward with my trackir, it stays the same size, i.e. it doesnt get bigger like the rest of the cockpit guages and instruments. Moving the size up a point or two would be a welcome benefit to me. Half of the training missions where the instructor is saying see this and see that on the hud.. Im like WTF, I dont see that. Thanks in advance, alphie
Crash_Fistfight Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Maybe you need to zoom your view in a little with the zoom keys, / and * on the numpad?
alphie Posted November 29, 2010 Author Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) Im using trackir and putting my face thru the monitor. Is there a closer zoom level than that? But, thanks for the info, Ill try it out. I was really hoping not to mash anymore buttons, as I tend to be doing that much to much already. Edited November 29, 2010 by alphie

nomdeplume Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I’m using trackir and putting my face thru the monitor. The HUD text size has been discussed numerous times and the answer is always the same: it's realistic as-is. Also the HUD is focused at infinity so moving physically closer to it doesn't change the size of its elements. You can use the * key to zoom in which will enlarge everything. You can also change the TrackIR Z axis to control the zoom level rather than head position to see if you like that better. Personally I don't, and have some buttons on my hotas assigned to 'zoom in slow' and 'reset zoom'.
tusler Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 The other thing I had to do during the training missions was to frequently hit the Pause key so I had time to read that tiny font before it disappeared! andysim Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Do what I do. Bind the Track IR Z axis to the zoom function. that way when you need to read the hud you can just move your head forward a bit. PS I know its cheating :megalol::pilotfly:But I have bad eyesight since birth. (70% right eye and peripheal only left eye)
sobek Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Im using trackir and putting my face thru the monitor. Is there a closer zoom level than that? You need to understand the difference between zoom and moving your head in space. If moving your head, the hud will not get bigger, as accurate to RL. Zoom decreases your field of view as a tradeoff to letting everything look bigger. The trackIR Z axis is by default bound to moving your head and not zooming. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Raz_Specter Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 not sure why you guys have a small font, when i run the training missions its perfectly fine for me. running the game in 2560 x 1600 thanks Mithandra Custom built W10 Pro 64Bit, Intel Core i9 9900k, Asus ROG Maximus Code XI Z390, 64GB DDR4 3200 RGB, Samsung 1TB NVme M.2 Drive, Gigabyte AORUS 2080TI, 40" Iiyama Display. BTTW-DratsaB Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I think the latest beta3 changes are to blame for difficulty reading the HUD. With Beta3 the Default Field Of View(FOV) was slightly zoomed out compared to Beta2. I have found this has made the HUD difficult to view/read. I know some people said they found the view in beta2 too close to the front, I did too, a bit too claustrophobic feeling. Maybe this is why they changed the default FOV. But what I felt needed adjusting was not the FOV but the actual seating position. The seat felt like it needed to be moved back an inch or so. Doing this would not affect the readability of the HUD as much as FOV changes. Also, too much adjusting of the FOV can lead to a fish effect when looking around which isn't very nice. But then again they know better than me what sitting an A10 might look and feel like. Specs: GA-Z87X-UD3H, i7-4770k, 16GB, RTX2060, SB AE-5, 750watt Corsair PSU, X52, Track IR4, Win10x64. slimakwielki Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I think the latest beta3 changes are to blame for difficulty reading the HUD. With Beta3 the Default Field Of View(FOV) was slightly zoomed out compared to Beta2. I have found this has made the HUD difficult to view/read. With Beta 3, once unpaused at the mission begining, field of view tends to zoom out untill hits its limits (found in view.lua) to 120 degrees. That what makes HUD not readable. Default 83 degrees is more then enough (personally use 90 degrees and "locked" FOV in view.lua at 90/90 to prevent it from zooming out...).
