They are still seeking it.

Well if ufo attack our planet i probably won t be here to live, and if things continue degradating that way in 150 years it won t matter anyway.

Every respectable Trekkie can tell you what will haven to Voyager. Or should I say V'Ger :smilewink:

Thanks, I love space and exploration.

I'm confused because the article mentioned wind but I thought there is no wind in space.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Yes, there is a wind. It is the solar wind, which consists of particles emitted by the sun.

You might not call it a wind in earthly terms.

"Wind" is a figure of speech- refers to the spherical stream of radiation / particles emanating from our sun. Voyager is now measuring the speed of those particles as zero- which means they've come up against the stuff put off by other stars..

If voyager were to last long enough-- I guess it would eventually clock particles at increasing speeds again- but from a different aspect. i.e. getting closer to another star.. The article at least implies that Voyager can determine which way the wind is blowin'

The Klingons will shoot it down.. I seen it.

In which episode?

I meant Star Trek: The motion picture from '79 where...

At the heart of the massive ship, V'Ger is revealed to be Voyager 6, a 20th-century Earth space probe believed lost. The damaged probe was found by an alien race of living machines that interpreted its programming as instructions to learn all that can be learned, and return that information to its creator. The machines upgraded the probe to fulfill its mission, and on its journey the probe gathered so much knowledge that it achieved consciousness. Spock realizes that V'Ger lacks the ability to give itself a focus other than its original mission; having learned what it could on its journey home, it finds its existence empty and without purpose. Before transmitting all its information, V'Ger insists that the Creator come in person to finish the sequence. Realizing that the machine wants to merge with its creator, Decker offers himself to V'Ger; he merges with the Ilia probe and V'Ger, creating a new form of life that disappears into another dimension. With Earth saved, Kirk directs the Enterprise out to space for future missions.

But it's about Voyager 6.. always thought it's about the original voyager..

I do believe in a few decades they will be superseded by faster probes. Perhaps in 100 years we will be able to recover the Voyager 1. :D

Currently we have another on the way to the outer solar system, the new horizons probe, the fastest object ever made by man, it passed the lunar orbit in just 9 hours. Launched in 2006 its about to cross the orbit of Uranus (it took voyager 6 years to get as far as Saturn). Its planned somewhere between 2015 and 2020 to visit dwarf planets of the kuiper belt.

In fact this last statement isn't true. Voyager 1 got what is called a gravity assist from Saturn, so while it took 6 years to get to Saturn, when it left Saturn it was moving faster than when New Horizons was that far from the Sun. New Horizons only was faster in the inner solar system as the higher speed was needed for following a different trajectory.

I know this all sounds very counter intuitive, but the workings of masses in gravitational fields is somewhat complex :D
