Does anyone know which keyboard buttons are unused by the sim? I want to map my push-to-talk, vac, and TrackIR center buttons.

Thanks!

Your using a TM Warthog correct?

I myself use "mic switch" Up for TS3 transmit and "mic switch" Push for TIR Centre.

Afaik the unused buttons on the TM Warthog are:

Throttle

Mic Switch Up

Mic Switch Push

Slew Push

Friction wheel on the right side (which i use for zoom).

Stick

Paddle button at the bottom.

Not sure about VAC, but TS3 and TIR are able to use the button presses as default so you shouldnt need to map keyboard keys etc.

Hi Ice,

Since you are using the TrackIR, you can "free-up" some redundant key assignments.

You can clear your cockpit view key assignments which are the numpad if memory serves me right.

You can also clear the arrow keys as you have a joystick to do that job.

Shadow, I'm talking about keys on the keyboard that have nothing mapped to them. I'm then going to use these keyboard keys for my TS3, TrackIR, and VAC push-to-talk.

Warrior, I need the numpad keys for moving the view when in F2 (external) or F6 (weapon) views. I've re-mapped the Warthog trim hat to trim.

What does up/down/left/right do in the game? I know that ; , . / are slew commands...

Just out of curiosity, why would you want them mapped on the keyboard? Surely having them available on the HOTAS would make your life a bit easier...

Anyway, i'll leave Warrior to continue

Thanks Shadow, to answer your question, knowing which keys that are free in A-10C is needed because a couple critical TrackIR functions need key assignments to work.

Mapping these TrackIR key assignments to the TM Warthog would require the use of the TARGET Software which most are avoiding at this time.

Hope this helps you understand.

TIR should recognize the joystick buttons as TS3 does. I have Mic up as PTT for TS3 and Mic push as center TIR. And I don't even have Target installed.. :)

Just go into game controller properties. Make sure all lights are off in the test page. Then you can open TS3/TIR and assign the buttons as usual :)

Shadow, how do you asign a button from the WH, I have tried launching TS3 clickiing the assing a button button and clicking the mic switch up but nothing happens.

Perhaps look at modifying some of the existing, but not so often used, keyboard assignments which already exist.

eg

remap the F9 key assigment (I don't recall the assignment name) to Right Shift + F9 and assign the TIR Precision to F9

the same for F10 TIR Pause and F11 TIR Centre

1) You need to open the controller properties page in Windows control panel - 'Devices and Printers'.

2) Then Right Click on the Warthog Throttle and select 'Game Controller Settings' this will pop up a new window.

3) Then select the throttle from the list and press 'properties'

4) Then ensure that no lights are lit (ie no buttons are pressed) you will need to toggle a few switches to turn off some of the lights.

5) Now you should be able to press a button on the throttle in Teamspeak or the Track IR software and have it detected.

Note: repeat 3,4, and 5 with the HOTAS to assign a button from the stick

Hope this helps

No problem Warrior, i understand the need for TIR functions, i myself only use the "re-centre" function, which as Dejjvid pointed out can just be assigned to a HOTAS button via the TIR software. BUt i suppose if you had use of the other functions aswell then maybe you would need to sort keyboard keys for those.

As posted above mate, TS3 will not accept an input for PTT unless all of the HOTAS switches are in the neutral position. Once they are all in the neutral positions TS3 should not have a problem picking up a key press. Just remember that once you are finished flying if you wish to set your PTT back to say your mouse (where i have my PTT most of the time) you will need to reset the switches back to neutral. As far as i am aware TIR does not suffer from this problem and you can assign a HOTAS button without having the switches in the neutral positions.

TM Warthog Neutral Positions:

Base Switches

Eng Fuel Flow: Both Override Position

Eng Oper: Both Centre Position

APU: Off

Autopilot: Alt/Hdg

RDR ALTM: DIS

EAC: Off

Flaps: Centre

Throttle

Speedbrake: Centre

Boat: Centre

Pinky Switch: Centre

Also make sure the throttle is just idle NOT inside the indentation for engines off.

So far the only two unmapped unshifted keys I've found are 'i' (key command PDF says this is for HOTAS Coolie Switch Down, but that's a typo, it's actually 'j' in-game) and 'F8'. If you have pedals, you can unmap X and Z (left and right rudder) too.

Scroll Lock is the king of unused keys. I can't remember any game that has ever used that key.

I've got 99 problems but my Ekran ain't one

here's a tip: go to the controls page in DCS A-10C and start mashing buttons. When you hit a button that is bound to a command, the screen will jump to that command and highlight it. Sometimes it seems like I have to cancel out of the control screen and get back into it for this to work.

Just keep mashing buttons until you find ones that aren't hooked up :-P This is also a good way to play "what does this button do?" with your joystick without crashing the plane...

Personally I tend to use Alt+F# combinations for TrackIR.

for ts3 use autohotkey.com

Doing this requires no external or otherwise solutions with using the HOTAS with TS3. Just make sure the switches are in the correct positions before assigning your key press.

Need help - Setting the "Friction" slider to the View Zoom on my TM HOTAS... Only done it 4 times now, but for some reason I just can't remember -- old age IS a factor here ;-) ... I just can't remember where to configure it...

Detailed instructions would help (if possible)

I thought TS3 doesn't recognize DX Button assignments, so Hotkey was a way around that. I'll try your method.

Hi Bradleyjs, I know how you feel! Here is the info you are looking for.

Go to Options/Controls/

Hit the drop down arrow at the top of the Control Assignment page.

Select Axis Commands

There will be a zoom view in that list that you can assign to the slider on the Warthog Throttle.

Happy Hunting!

Thanks=this worked great with TS and Ventrilo. If anyone wants to map VAC, you will still need hotkey. Instructions here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=63003
