Im designing a new computer for my flight simming, and my budget isnt limited for the next 4 months or so, so Ill probably be building it for the next 2 months.

Here is what I have so far:

Case

PSU

Mobo

RAM

CPU

HSF

GPU

HDD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136764

SSD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139428

Im also getting a BluRay burner, and I intend on getting 6 of those 16gb SSD drives and run them in RAID0. Problem is that Im not sure if the motherboard has enough SATA ports to run them all. My only requirements is that this thing has to run on my HDTV instead of a DVI monitor, which I see will be my biggest hassle. Any suggestions? Im not sure if I want to run in SLI as of yet, but Im not ruling it out. My last build never got off the ground with SLI, so Im not really worried about it.

Also would like some info on flight sim benches.

Get an I7 2600K CPU instead. They are faster for similar price.

I would get a single SDD instead of several, you gain speed but reliability will be lower. The model you chose is ancient history. Sandforce 120GB are the sweetspot right now. Allows OS instal and games you choose to install.

I also recommend a COOLERMASTER HAF-X case, cheaper and offers all features you need and them some.

WHY 6 16gb ssds???The larger ones will run much faster!!!!I have 2 256gb ssds, but even 2 or 3 80gb ssds will be faster than 6 16s???:book:

P.S. Call OriginPC , They are all about FAST and POWERFUL..They will answer your Questions, even if you don't but from them, They are Gamers and OLD Alienware execs...They are the best. Already they have Sandybridge at 5.0mhz

Wouldnt running them in RAID0 speed up R/W times? Im more interested in top performance without spending 2 grand on just a hard disk.

And whats the difference between the i7 950 and the 2600k anyways?

Maybe 2 of these instead?

Read this thread about Sandy's http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=64635 Hopefully I can build my new computer by the end of March and I plan on getting a Sandy.

OK, Ill have a look at some of the 2500k stuff...mobos, cpu and ram. Anything Im missing?

Pilotasso, I actually like this case...its genius with cable management, and it has damned efficient airflow throughout the case. My only beef is that its heavy.

It doesnt look like LGA 1155 supports Tri-Channel memory..is this correct?

+1 to exactly what Pilotasso said on all of the above. The i7 2600k is newer and better than my i7-950 and it also has the same features such as quad core, HT but it will overclock considerably higher that the i7-950.

The Coolermaster Haf X is also a great buy and if I didn't have my components inside this Antec P182B then today I would go for the Haf X. Excellent cooling, loads of space, front hot swappable drives and a pair of front USB3 ports to boot. If you don't like the rugged style then obviously look elsewhere.

And again on the SSD a single 120GB Sandforce drive such as the OCZ Vertex 2E will be perfect for Windows 7 along with all your premium sims. Get a mchanical HD such as a Samsung F3 1TB or something to store mdeia, photos, and other games and programs on.

It does come with wheels if that helps and pretty much all full size cases are heavy unless made of aluminium.

Yep that is correct. Sandybridge (LGA 1155) supports dual channel memory so you will be best to go for either 2 x 4gb sticks or 4 x 2gb sticks of RAM.

One final thing that I would add regarding memory choice is that there appears little problem in populating all 4 memory banks with RAM sticks and overclocking your system. With some of the old Intel chipsets if you filled up all memory banks it would limit overclocking. A page from a Bit-Tech article highlights that this is not a problem with Sandybridge as per the below link:

Sandy Bridge Memory : 4GB (2 DIMM) vs 16GB (4 DIMM)

Why would they disable Trichannel memory? Im sold on the 2600k, but I think I would prefer tri channel over dual channel any day.

As far as the HAF X goes, Im not going to bother with that case...personally I think it looks tacky. I might go with another Thermaltake Kandalf, that one was a good looking stand...but Im still sold on the Corsair case. Cable management is something Im not too good at.

I really doubt that in real world terms and flight sims you would be able to distinguish or see any difference between tri and dual channel memory. Bottom line is that you will get slightly better stock performance from Sandybridge with massive headroom to easily overclock your 2500k or 2600k which will extend the performance life of your rig. All of this with dual channel memory.

On the case, as I said earlier they are personal things because it is your most visible component. Just make sure your case has good airflow, room for upgrades if required, good cable management, and quality built. Haf x, corsair 800 or 700 all tick these boxes along with others. So go with what fits your budget, feature set, and of course looks good.

Happy building of your DCS killer rig.

That's cool but it was Hitman looking for advise on a new build as per the first post of this thread. All I was doing was offering him some advise. In short to get a Sandybridge based system and not an i7-950 socket 1366 like I currently have. :)

I really enjoyed my i7 920 platform, which is why I wanted to get another i7 1366 chip. Im not anxious to start overclocking hardcore again, but it was fun overclocking that 920. I Had that one o/c to 4.8ghz stable once before I sold it. And Im not shelling out 6 large for an OriginPC. Im only doing the computer if I dont get an auto loan for a truck Im trying to buy, and 6k would go along way to getting that truck paid off.

I went to that OriginPC site and built a very good computer for about 2G's. That's not a bad price since I don't upgrade very often, I tend to keep my computers for a very long time. Look at what I'm using now....in my sig :music_whistling: try not to bust a gut laughing though.

That aint nothing, I had the same computer in college. Then I spent 3 grand upgrading it 6 months after I got it, and sold it for 1 grand 4 months later.
