Jinro Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 In the later missions of the A-10 campaign (FC2) I'm having trouble taking out the SA-19. It launches at me from way beyond AGM65 range, and the missile seems to travel at lightspeed; I have less than half a second to live after I hear the launch warning, so dumping chaff is pointless. ECM is worthless (not just against SA-19s, but against any AI enemy in the entire game)--I don't understand why it even exists. I tried flying below 50ft to stay under its missiles, only to get shot down by its stupidly accurate laser cannon. On a few occasions I managed to lock and launch an AGM65, only to have it plow into the ground. So what's the best way to silence the SAMs? AI SEAD is epic fail, apparently, and so is ECM.

At that altitude I can't even see the SA-19......in "Visit to the Port" I can't even see the bridge that I'm supposed to bomb until I'm at 4,000. Wikipedia lists missile altitude at around 11,500ft. X-man Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Crunch, this is FC2 ;) Here's an example of how to kill a SA19. Remember, ECM will shorten the launch range for the SAM, so you can get closer in while using it. Jinro Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 For some reason in my game ECM doesn't do anything. I turn it on, confirm that it's on, I still get shot at from 15 miles away. Aren't 65Ds already the default payload in the A-10 campaign?

I still can't get within launch distance, however. Even with ECM on I get destroyed.

ECM has to be used in the right circumstances. And sometimes it should not be used... depending on different sams. Using ECM can sometimes allow you to get too close to a sam without launch. And when it does launch you are too far in to kinematically defeat it. Food for thought. So in this case ECM lets you get closer, but you get closer to kill it... or fail. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Maybe in the campaign I'm getting launched at by an SA19 but actually getting shot down by a MANPAD or something. In the later campaigns there's so much stuff going on I have a hard time even finding the SA19.

In the later campaigns there's so much stuff going on I have a hard time even finding the SA19. If you talk about the default A-10 missions you are engaged by a SAM site far away. You must stay on the south (maby south east) side of the target area and avoid it completly. In the missions where you are supposed to attack from the north side you must stay low. You are not supposed to attack the SAM site to the north. The default missions work much better in version 1.0 because the AGM-65D is much better to lock AAA and SAMs there. So install the default FC2 release and play the campaign there. EDIT: You also should read BeachAV8Rs campaign reports. HiJack Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 FC2 Version 1.2.0 does the job! There is a bug with AGM-65D on the patched version. BeachAV8R did the guide in the release version.
