GGTharos Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I guess the only bad thing you'll do to yourself doing that is flying with extra drag. Not a huge deal if you don't mind fuel consumption too much. Might also affect your climb a bit. hawk2495 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Other aircraft have 20 mm Vulcan cannons. The A-10 has the GAU-8. Other aircraft have puny little radars. If the A-10 had a radar, proportionality dictates it'd have a radar which could: 1) Fry bacon, small animals, T-72s and small countries from up to 7 nm away. 2) Make the planet spin the other way due to the electro-magnetic recoil. 3) Absorb all the global warming. 4) Act as a weather radar by painting the weather. Painting as in "drawing new weather", not as in "recording the current weather". 5) Make the RWR beep, as the radar beam hits the transmitting A-10 after circumnavigating the planet... or possibly the entire curved space-time continuum. 6) ... 7) ... ;) Just bloody classic... Why is the rum always gone!?!?!?!
Fish Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 It may not be the best solution, but I trim the rudder. Sometimes I have to counter trim the ailerons. Don't think this would be a good practice. Any rudder input would cause unnecessary resistance., and might lead to problems after touch down, unless you can recenter trim (not something u need to be doing right then) just after touch down. In cross wind, I always leave plenty of room on finals, to adjust the nose for the cross wind. if your being blow down, then nose into the wind a bit further till it keeps u stable on the approach path. Then on touch down, apply rudder to align with runway just before touch down. Then trim rudder to keep straight. And if its not right, I'll always do a missed approach, and try again. Arclight Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Perhaps ground mapping or ground moving target detection. :smilewink: There have been times when I've longed for my old Viper and it's radar while orbiting over the battlefield trying to find an elusive target. Ah, but the Viper fills a different role, doesn't it? CAS kinda implies you know (roughly) where the targets are. And even if an A10 would be send to scout something out, it doesn't have the speed or the altitude to stay safe or get out of trouble. Really think ground-search radar would sooner compromise it's abilities by adding dead weight. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] DCS A-10C: putting the 'art' into 'warthog'. (yes, corny. Sorry.)

effte Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 (edited) Chuck Norris doesn't need a GAU-8 to deplete your anium! Once he's figured out what it means, he'll just do it...
