tusler Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 All I can tell you about the lights and combat is if you do like I did and leave your lights on (forget to turn them off-it can get busy quick at fence in) and the flight lead gets shot at because of it don't be surprised if lead swings around and shoots you:cry:-man he sure was upset:music_whistling: Ask Jesus for Forgiveness before you takeoff :pilotfly:! Stretch Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) In real life I use the following procedure: Starting engine: Beacon on Beginning taxi: Nav on, taxi light on (night) -- Crossing or entering any runways: Strobes on Exiting any runways: Strobes off At hold short line: taxi light off (night), landing light on Taking active runway: Strobes on -- Climb complete: Landing light off --- Beginning descent: Landing light on --- Clearing runway: Strobes off, landing light off, taxi on (night) Aircraft parked: Nav off, taxi off (night) Engine shutdown: Beacon off Strobes off in foggy weather or when operating nearby other aircraft. All lights on when I overhear ATC trying to get someone else to notice me. Remarkymarkable Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I can't find the switches in the cockpit to control the lights. The pinky on my TM HOTAS throttle doesn't do anything. It seems the only lights I can use in the SIM are the nose wheel lights when taxiing
Flamin_Squirrel Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 The pinky switch might not do anything, depending where you set it and where all your other light switches are set. The majority of lighting switches are on the right hand panel, towards the back.

DaveRindner Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Not entirely certain, but by observing what AI controlled aircraft are doing. I observed following; Startup: After APU+APY GEN is ON and before engines start. Pos Lights-ON, Collision Light: ON, TAXI light: ON, Formation light: OFF Taxi: Same as startup assuming no tactical light discipline. Flight: Formation light ON, Col Light: ON, Pos Light: OFF Flight fence in 'tactical'; Formation light: ON dim, all other lights off. Inflight refueling: Form light: ON, Col light: OFF, Pos Light: OFF, Nose light: ON during nighttime and IFR for duration of refueling. Landing final: Landing Light: ON, Col Light: ON, Form Light: OFF, Nose Ill:OFF, Pos light:OFF for VFR ON for IFR.
