Cockpit view (mission start) is all messed up

Recommended Posts

Posted

When the mission loading is about to end and present me with the ingame view, I get the blank screen but can hear the sounds in the background (I can also control the plane, tried this by firiing the GAU).

Sometimes the screen is blank (black) and sometimes the graphics are all distorted. Is this perhaps related to video drivers? I have ATI 4770.

Thanks

Close the SIM, clear the contents of your Temp folder, start-up again and see if that helps. Also toggle all your settings to low to trouble-shoot.

^^I dont have access to that forum yet.

If by the info you mean what version am I running?

I'm running beta4 and realized I have this issue only when setting textures to HIGH and having HDR on. HDR is off now and Textures are set to MEDIUM and the problem is gone. I hope this gets fixed in the future.

Can you give details of your system? Preferably Output from DXDIAG.

Edit:- sorry I see you have no OB access. How to get Open Beta forum access --> http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61793

My friend is experiencing a similar problem... Missions load with a black screen with all the sounds running in background. We will be watching this thread closely for some advice.

Try this, linked in my sig. Please post in here http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=63 to get access to the Open Beta forum, this thread will most likely be moved in there soon.

Note- EDITING incorrectly the BOOT.INI can make your system unbootable, requiring repairing windows from the XP installation disk.

You're right Nate, i've amended my previous post BTW, i thought sam777777 was refering to Windows 7 32 bit :music_whistling:

I found this description for editing the boot.ini for XP, here's the copy and paste:

Enable the 3GB switch on Windows XP

  • Right-click My Computer. Click Properties.
  • In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
  • On the Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
  • In the Startup and Recovery dialog box, under System startup, click Edit. The Windows boot.ini file will be opened in Microsoft® Notepad.
  • Create a backup copy of the boot.ini file. Note: Boot.ini files may vary from computer to computer.
    Select the following line in the boot.ini file:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

  • Press Ctrl+C to copy the line and then press Ctrl+V to paste it immediately below the original line.
    Note: Your text string may be different from the text string in this solution, so be sure to copy the text string from your boot.ini file, and not the text string included here.
    Modify the copied line to include “ /3GB”, as shown in the following example:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional 3GB" /3GB /fastdetect

Note: Do not overwrite any existing lines.

  • Save and close the boot.ini file.
  • Click OK to close each dialog box.
  • Restart your computer.
  • During startup, select the 3GB option. If you do not select the 3GB option, the system will default to the 2GB total memory setting.

Note: If problems occur during startup, you may need to update some of your drivers.

clear the cache. That usually fixes the black screen.

Delete everything in this folder: DCS A-10C Beta\Temp

My friend tried all the advice, but no success. As for the boot editing, the 3Gb option does not appear at boot-up. You mentioned updating drivers ? Which ones.

I'm also worried about his system specs, maybe it is too low:

* Intel E6600 core 2 duo processor

* 3GB Ram: a mixture of 2 x 1GB and 2 x 512 Mb simms

* Nvidia 7900 GTX Graphics

Attached, a pic of what his screen... almost looks like a night mission.

I wanted to tell him to switch on the lights, but thought this frustrated A10 enthusiast is in no mood for jokes !

We tried the boot-up again:

Did everything according to script. On start up I had two options of Microsoft XP to choose from…No 2G or 3G. When I recheck the text string, the second line reads as see attachment :

Attachment:

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer /numproc=2

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /3GB"/3GB/fastdetect /usepmtimer /numproc=2

Problem solved!! As suspected, the black screen was caused by the Nvidia 7900 GTX card. Too old for the new Sim. Replaced it with an Nvidia 450 and no more black screen !

Good to know, I'll try to remember that. Also in the Boot.ini line you left out spaces and had stuff in the wrong place

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /3GB"/3GB/fastdetect /usepmtimer /numproc=2

It should look like this

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional 3GB" /3GB /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer /numproc=2

I had the same card, and no problems. Last time I used it with 11.1 drivers.
