Vullcan Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 My setup was designed so that I could disconnect the USB cord and slide it into the corner of the room when I wasn't flying, which keeps the lady of the house happy as she can still watch movies from the couch. Forgive my poor photography skills which do nothing to represent the actual image quality on the wall (it looks just like a HDTV basically, only bigger). 1920x1080 resolution at 120". I have a buttkicker now under the chair which really adds to the immersion. The hardest part was rigging up trackIR as you cant place it in front of you. I was able to get it to work to the side and behind me mounted on the railing using the software's built in camera rotation setting.
BHawthorne Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Interestng setup. I was confused for a second by your choice of words in the title. I iniitially thought you meant "motion" cockpit not "portible" cockpit. One thing I don't really like about 1080p projectors is the lens throw. How long is the throw on your setup?
LeLv30_Superbus Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Nice! Wow. How are your new pedals? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Click to view pictures of my deskpit
Drover Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Impressive, how do you like the TM WH hotas...
Napa Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 How did you managed to rig the TIR to the side and behind you? Impressive setup. Intel i7 12700k / Corsair H150i Elite Capellix / Asus TUF Z690 Wifi D4 / Corsair Dominator 32GB 3200Mhz / Corsair HW1000W / 1x Samsung SSD 970 Evo Plus 500Gb + 1 Corsair MP600 1TB / ASUS ROG Strix RTX 3080 OC V2 / Fractal Design Meshify 2 / HOTAS Warthog / TFRP Rudder / TrackIR 5 / Dell U2515h 25" Monitor 1440p
Vullcan Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 The HOTAS is great as everyone else has said, the only real downside being the bricked throttles (I had this happen to me). The pedals are overpriced, its the same as the older saitek pedals just with a new face. I was also forced to set a 50% deadzone for them to work properly in DCS a10 which is unresonable IMO. The older saitek pedals did not have this problem, I dont know how many other people are affected by this. You can mount the track IR behind you by going into the track IR software settings and setting the rotate camera option to 180 degrees, then all you have to do is mount your track clip pro backwards or put your hat on backwards and align it properly. Its great to not have the track IR in your field of view but still have it work like its supposed to.
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Nice work, wish I had a room that big. In my front bedroom mancave I use a first surface mirror to get a little more throw distance. For those that have small rooms and want a proj. setup you can easily find first surface mirrors in old proj. TVs. Wish I could have a bigger room like yours for movies if nothing else. I can't really complain though as I get roughly a 100" image in only a an 8'x10' room and the throw is on the 8' width. I don't know if I could sit that far away from the screen, but I know how proj.s go with your head getting in the way. http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Vullcan Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 I found that sitting any closer required too much turning your head just to see one part of the screen. Its like going to a movie theater and sitting in the front rows with your neck craned up at the sky, it makes it less enjoyable even though its "bigger".
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) That's true but since your screen seems to be about 50" bigger its probably more an issue. And since my room is 8' deep from wall to screen I can't scoot my simpit back any farther anyways! The sofa behind me gets in the way! It's a tight fit but a lot more room than many get to themselves (your excluded lol), going to miss this space when we have more kids!
