Can someone demonstrate how it is done on Youtube for us? Including the setup. I've yet to see if done by anyone. Is it even possible in the A10 ? I think I read about that in the manual.

It is techincally possible, but not very effective with the A-10C due to it's slow speed. You'd probably want something like an F-15E to perform lofted deliveries of bombs in a meaningful manner.

LOL. Funny how those pictures of the F-15 at the game start are nice. Hmmm...F-15....

300knots at 45deg gives you +2000m range approx (very simple ballistic equation) - thats pretty doable in the A-10C

345knots at 45deg gives you 3km - you'd have to get a run-up :)

If your +1000ft above the target, then you'll gain maybe 500m

Still, +2km standoff range lobbing Mk82's? Sounds like not a bad option for AAA plinking if you dont have mav's.

...or you could just climb to angels 15 and drop it on them from there, where AAA can't reach you anyways.

Lofting isn't only about standoff (there's SDB's and such nice stuff for that job - release at Mach2 and angels 45 and you have a GPS-guided bomb with ~40nm range... :P ), lofting is also about simply not being seen. For example if you have your target on the other side of a hill you can approach masked by the hill at high speed and loft it over the hill, turning back after release. That way, whatever air defence was on the other side cannot touch you - best they can hope for is to detect and engage the bomb(s).

This gives us a sort of safer approach at low alts. I can never get in range to drop bombs without getting shot at by sams or something. Have to stay low and out of range.

Using mavericks are good but hard to pinpoint specific targets out of a group with the maverick seeker. I mean the TGP I can zoom in much further and ID a target and then switch to maverick but you still kinda have to slew it to get it to lock up. I have such a hard time with that.. just me. So I usually can never pick out individual targets with the maverick seeker. Just tiny little dots to me.

I'm sure toss bombing isn't too accurate.. but it would be fun to drop some cbu's in that way...

Oh, and Thermal, do you have proper drag index for JDAMs plugged into those equations?

Loonecrow, regarding IDing targets with Mav seeker - just ID it with TGP, mark it, slave all to SPI, switch to Mav and then fire.

Also, if there's SAMs about, what the heck are you doing there? You need to wait until the F-16 Blck 52's have taken the SAMs out. ;)

Where is the fun in that? Your head gets all woozy from the lack of oxygen :music_whistling:

(The calcs came out as 2.4km and that was ignoring any height difference, the pull to +45 deg would give you plus... 500ft?? which would give you another few hundred metres of range, so I rounded down a fair bit).

There should be no need to slew the mav. Make the target SPI through the TGP and switch to the mav, you might have to slave it to the SPI but once doing so just press TMS Up Short and it will try and lock, if it doesn't lock just try the button again. No need to start slewing and trying to keep it on target to get the lock.

If you want a video for better explanation I think Tiger from the 104th did one.

Hope this helps.

I was going to do a training video on this, and it's relevant again now that a lot of the CCRP/CCIP inaccuracy has been fixed. But honestly? You need to get so close that it won't even reliably protect you from MANPADs. If you were in a supersonic, afterburner-equipped jet it would be different. The A-10 requires another set of tactics.

This.

Once you have made the target SPI in TGP and then slaved MAV to said SPI you should start pressing TMS UP SHORT in about one second intervals until the crosshair of the MAV becomes solid and you have a lock. Then fire away!

Yeah you can usually achieve a lock at around 7nm.

As for lofting, I tried it once on a SAM site, disaster. Suppose it could possibly work if you build up some speed in a dive before hand.

Most of the time we are flying from waypoint to way point. When you fence in you contact Jtac and follow their commands. Realisticaly how would you know whether other flights have destroyed the air defenses?

As for the TGP I do that, but when I switch to the maverick and slave all it looks locked but the crosshairs are not all the way down usually. So I don't fire it. I usually have to move the slew a tiny bit to get it to lock.. But my slew sucks on thie X52

A little overpowering though. Nothing can touch them..
