I do not have pedals with toe brake functionality. Now that the Hog appears to roll slowly forward at minimum power, if I want to adjust anything while stationary on the ground I need to either keep W or my assigned HOTAS wheelbrake button pressed or hit Active Pause; these are not elegant solutions. Does anyone know if I can lock/unlock the wheelbrakes? Thanks.

The hog doesn't have a parking brake, but there aren't any chocks implemented either. You have to either hold the brakes down to keep yourself from rolling and hope another keypress doesn't take them off (Like the ctrl key) or hope your EGI alignment isn't too far off if you start rolling lol. AFAIK there is no possible way to keep yourself stationary in a passive way in this sim.

Wow, heh, well, Active Pause it is, then. No biggie but that's a bit of an immersion-kill. Good to know, though. I'll be requesting a parking brake/chocks in a patch. Wish me luck.

If you have hotas with rotaries, or trim wheels, you can assign wheel brakes to one of them, that's what I did.

That's a good idea! Hope it works. Trouble is, I think my CH HOTAS trim wheels in the base of the joystick are not programmable and are exclusively dedicated to trim x/y axes. There are no other rotaries.

(Fascinating coincidence, Castle).

Actually, the A-10 does have an emergency brake. Right there the left front panel. I've pulled it from time to time and it's kept me still. Should I NOT be using it?

Donno, I need to look it up in the manual. Says "EMER BRAKE" on the handle.

I always thought that lever was a parking brake.. the more and more I get familiarize myself with this plane I have the feeling that is not complete (not the sim, but the actual RL plane).

No parking brake, no speed brake indication (having to look either side of the plane is indeed very practical but still I want to look at my direction especially when I'm landing), no pitot heat indication (or is there?... I mean I don't know if there is no other way to know if pitot heat is actually ON unless the damage is already done).

Anyhow.. back to topic. I sure would like to see a solution to this. Some chocks wouldn't hurt, they are implemented on Su-33 before take-off from the Kuz, so why not implement them on A-10C?

if i'm not totally mistaken the emergency brake can only be engaged once, as it draws compressed air from a dedicated cartridge. so shouldn't be used unless there's a real emergency

have a look at the pitot heat switch? it's fairly chunky and easy to see whether in on or off position.

i don't think airbrake indication would be of any use as you adjust the airbrake "as needed".

I've seen people use it on landing after taking heavy damage because there main wheel brakes wouldn't work or wouldn't work effectively ( due to lost hydraulic power? ).

Yeah, I also posted on a previous thread on this topic - it's hard to believe there's no parking brake. I mean, assume an A10 pilot goes on a little solo cross country (yeah, some assumptions here, bear with me :) ) - he lands at some civilian airport for some reason (he needs the toilet?), and lo and behold, there's nobody to meet him. Now, he has to dive out of the cockpit and run around like a maniac looking for a brick/log/old boot (!) to jam behind the wheels before his aircraft runs away due to a strong wind/slight slope etc? I was always told never to trust the park brake EXCEPT to quickly jump out and chock the aircraft, but the poor old Hog pilot can't even do that. Seems odd.....

on the topic of speed brakes I noticed there is an audio cue for when the speed brakes are out now hehe. Not sure if you can hear the sound change in the real aircraft but its a nice addition to the sim

kinda sure betty's also bothered by brakes IRL. wouldn't be in dcs if not.

No. It is not a parking brake, it simply switches the wheel brakes from the left hyd system to the right hyd system, you still have to apply the brakes using the pedals. If using the right hyd system you have no anti-skid available.

Now thats some good info there.

Edit: Hold on a sec... How do I know the brakes are using the left or right hyd system?.. oh right, the anti-skid shouldn't work if its right.. sorry didn't sleep good last night :P

They use the left hydraulic system (which also enables anti-skid), unless you pull the EMER BRAKE handle, in which case they use the right.

If you're moving at a reasonable clip, you can also try standing on the brakes while watching the hydraulic pressure gauges. Whichever one dips is the channel that's in use. ;)

The flight manual doesn't explain how the emergency brake works, but I believe a developer said a while ago that the handle isn't a brake, it only engages a separate hydraulic source but still requires you to step on the pedals. The brakes will still be inert unless you're standing on them. :)

[edit] And 3 posts up Eddie explained it again. Haha...it's gonna be a long day.

You have a throttle wheel on the left side of the FS... no idea if that would work or not...

Doesn't it seem like there is way too little rolling friction in this release? I think the parking break thing wouldn't be such a problem if there was a bit more rolling resistance like there was in beta 4.

It seems like I can roll pretty much forever if i taxi and let completely off of the throttles. Im not sure if this is realistic at all.

Thanks for the explanation, Eddie. It must have been the "placebo" effect that made me sit still after engaging EMER BRAKE then. :D

As far as anti-skid, I like having no anti-skid cuz then it's easier to do donuts and leave rubber marks on the tarmac. You spin out of control and fish-tail real easy, which is fun.
