Yep I use an equalizer and pass it through twice for an ATC effect. I'm using Soundforge though but filters are probably similar.

I also use a resonant filter that adds a fairly realistic O2 mask type effect for the fast jet pilots. Maybe there is a .vst resonant filter plug-in for Audacity?

Another option which I have used is to cut and paste the existing in game .ogg files to create my own sentences.

Now if we could access the existing .ogg files through a lua function that would help keep the .miz file a little smaller. Still waiting on ED to publish a list of lua functions & parameters we can use though.

This is awesome. I'm creating a mission where ground forces contact me using proper radio procedures and in the background you can hear the battlefield noises. Sounds good so far. I'm an ex combat signalman so it should be quite authentic etc.

Y'all are going to have to listen to a USAF Hog pilot with an English accent. But for the OP commander on the ground, I'm going to enlist the voice of my 12 year-old, all-American son, pitch-lowered in Audacity.

FYI - .wav's are very small if you use CCITT format...

After a promising start i have to admit that my attempt at an American accent sounds fkn ridiculous.

I have got the British Army Infantry Platoon Commander sounding awesome with loads of ambient battlefield noises in the background with great radio effects. However when the Hog pilot starts talking it sounds .....well, like a brit trying to do an american voice and failing to the point where my wife literally laughed out loud and said "WTF? are you doing"

Need an American friend to act, read and record his voice for me. Come on any takers?

What's the "script" look like?

OK guys, this is a good find. An Audacity forum mod explained to me -- with helpful screenshot -- how to customise a profile in the Equalizer effect that does everything I want -- i.e. convert a voice recording into a radio comms soundalike -- without having to use further plugins. And in the 1.3 Beta you can save this profile; I have named it "Radio". You then apply Effects/"Leveller" 3x to the file. Result: An easy two-step process for for conversion of voice files into a consistent "radio" output format!

Here is the link, just scroll down.

Tyrspawn, you make a good point. It's always going to sound a little odd when the automated pilot's voice for scripted dialogue sounds different from the supposedly same pilot's voice in user-made radio message voice files. Haven't a clue how to address this, though.

We should perhaps focus on trying to figure that out. This is my first DCS game, so I don't know ANYTHING about modding. Were any custom voices added to lockon or blackshark?

Wow thanks for the link to audacity, this program is really nice for creating voice overs.
