This thread is like a script for a movie on entrepreneurship...or perhaps cloud source design! Can't wait to download the app, and I'd be happy to pay for it. Bravo zulu, sickdog.

If you own an iphone (or similar) you can easily copy briefing text with mission description, comm freqs, package names, treats and etc and read it on your iphone during the flight...

I usually start campaign or select mission and just before i go to flight, i exit to main menu, open mission editor and the last mission is loaded in editor. Then I copy all relevant information (which you can get by clicking on briefing button) in a new mail that I send and then open on my iphone..That way during the flight, I can read mission related info, radio frequencies and such..

Any chance you could do this on an iPad 2?

Yes, shouldn't be too hard to re-design for iPad. Actually, I think it'd be way more useful with the bigger screen, it was tough doing everything I wanted on that 320x480 iPhone! I was going to wait for feedback on this on the iPhone before I started the iPad one. But I suppose if there's enough demand for it on iPad I can get cracking on it. Got a bit trip coming up so might have to wait a few weeks.

Hey Sickdog,

Well...I thought being able to view the briefing screen in 1.08 might kill your app a little, but the implementation is a little clumsy so it looks there still is a need for a briefing on your iPhone.

So...rather than tell you all the cool thing you should be doing with your app I have spent the last month teaching myself Objective C and have written a class that parses a XML file from an internet URL and stores the values as properties of an object you can access and assign to labels. This would plug in easily to your iphone app.

No more having to enter in mission briefings yourself provided someone who knows LUA knows a way to write out an XML file that the iphone app can read.

We would have to agree on a structure for the XML file as well to cater for all the required information.

So hit me up if you want to take this further.

I think I might be embarking on my own iPad app. I just joined the Apple Developer Program (which enables me to list/sell apps in the App store) so I'll be in a position to launch an app when finished. I have some design ideas I am fleshing out to take full advantage of the iPad and its graphical abilities.

However, I will need some help from some volunteers.

Basically I would need some people who know how to use a text editor to create text files (in XML..but we can go over that..it's easy) to input airfield information and maybe even convert checklists from PDF documents into actual data files.

Would anyone be up for this?

For example....an entry for an airfield may look like this

<airfield name="Batumi">

<frequency>123.12</frequency>

<tacan>1ZW</tacan>

</airfield>

Any volunteers?

Also...are people interested in actually "checking" off checklists or they content with just reading it off a sheet?

Yes, I'm curious also, have you been able to submit the app to iTunes yet?

The App has begun its journey through the Apple review process as of this morning, having been sent in May 29th. If all goes well, it could be approved and on the app store today or tomorrow. I'll make sure to post something here and on the main page when it goes live. And again, if people like it, I'll make an iPad version that will be even better.

Thanks again for your interest everyone!

Sounds pretty nifty, but perhaps beyond my level of programming knowledge. I'd be interested in learning more about it though, could make inputting info a bit easier. PM me and we can chat some more about it.

Hi... Maybe you should contact with this file's author.

It contains exactly an xml file with airport information, although it is used for other purposes, maybe you can find it useful.

Regards.

Great news everyone, the app is approved and should be on the iTunes app store for free within the next 24 hours. The name (of course) is iWarthog. :)

Installed the app on the ipad yesterday - great job, great app mate! You now know as I am a iPad user that I would love to get a iPad version (I'd pay for it).
