bflagg Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 I've recently been reading Fighter Combat by Shaw and a few other books, manuals..etc on flight combat techniques... How would one practice this stuff? ie.. how would I setup a TE ...er sorry.. mission to practice a Vertical Sicissors? Flat Sicissors? Hi Yo-Yo.. Low Yo-Yo? etc... Energy Fight? Angles Fight?... BTW anyone who hasn't gotten it yet....get the damn book. It's quite an engrossing read. Can any of you older hands share some tips on this situation? Thanks, Brett
SUBS17 Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 If you have flaming cliffs goto the Topgun training tracks. As for the scissors both vertical and horizontal you really need VR or trackir to use this manouvre succsessfully as it involves keeping an eye on your oponent while you roll and try to get behind him. King_Hrothgar Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 Nonsense, I use the good ole hat switch and am very good at scissoring ;). My suggestion is to set yourself and an AI up as guns only and duke it out with him repeatedly. Some planes are better than others for scissoring and any other specific manuever. In truth, the difference between rookies and aces is who can determine which manuever is best at any given time. Practicing scissoring is of little value, what is is figuring out when to use it and when not to. To do that use the mission setup I recommended above. I only recommend guns only cause otherwise you and the AI will likely never get past the merge or atleast that has been my experience :D

I'd suggest you hook up with one of the 169th/77th/941st squaddies and ask for some training, way more fun than going in on an AI, and you'll have a better learning curve!! :D
