TigersharkBAS Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Hey guys, Quick question. If I am on a bombing run in CCIP and have the pipper on the target and pickle, does the Z mark show the current location of my plane or the point on the ground that the pipper is pointing at? WarriorX Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 From pg 461 in the Flight Manual: "Weapon Event. Each time a weapon is released, a Z Mark Point is created. Each subsequent weapon release replaces the last Z Mark Point." I would guess your plane's position when you released the weapon. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Is that you John Wayne?.......Is this me?" nomdeplume Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I think it's the weapon impact point. If you fire the gun and then slew the TGP to the location Mark Z, it'll be pointing at whatever you were firing at, not some space in the air where you happened to be.
WarriorX Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) Well I guess that calls for a slight edit for clarification of the Flight Manual if that is the case. Something like..."Weapon Event. Each time a weapon is fired or released, a Z Mark Point is created at the predicted impact point of that weapon. Each subsequent weapon firing or release, replaces the last Z Mark Point." Edited to reflect the current understanding. Edited March 23, 2011 by WarriorX [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Is that you John Wayne?.......Is this me?" Teeps Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 But how could the system actually know that? What if your last weapon goes astray for some reason? It's impact point might be quite some way from the predicted place. Win10 x64, 16 GB RAM, Ryzen 5 1600X @3.60 GHz, 500 GB SSD, GeForce 1080 Ti
nomdeplume Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Well, the mark point is updated when you fire/release the weapon, so it'd be going from its predicted impact point / location designated by the sensor / whatever.
TigersharkBAS Posted March 22, 2011 Author Posted March 22, 2011 Hence why I was asking. It all seems a little unclear. My understanding is that is the Computed impact point. But it could be current location of AC if the manual is correct. NoJoe Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I just tested this, and Markpoint Z is indeed placed at the calculated weapon impact point. It's pretty cool, you can see it in action yourself: 1. Turn the CDU steerpoint dial to "Mark" (instead of Flight Plan or Mission) 2. TMS aft long to set the steerpoint as SPI 3. Make sure the TGP is up on one of the MFDs and set to A/G. 4. China Hat forward long to slave the TGP to the SPI. 5. Go to CCIP and drop a bomb or fire the gun, and watch as the TGP points at the calculated impact point. Wait a few seconds and see your bombs or shells impact nearby! :pilotfly: Also interesting to see that Markpoint Z is at the calculated impact point, but wind or general inaccuracy will tend to make the bombs/shells/whatever hit slightly off. Cool! :D --NoJoe 2
