GregP Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Thanks Kuky for all your work :D this and the distance mod make the game look effin sexy! Agreed! I made these two changes last night and WOW, what a difference, totally worth the 1-2 FPS I think I lost. Thanks Kuky! Regarding 'clutterMaxDistance', though -- after I exit the game, I see that DCS has set it back to 500. Kuky, did you make your file read-only so that it wouldn't do this?

Sticky Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Thanks Kuky! I took it a few steps further than you did and have very dense grass now. But still at short ranges only, since it still looks bad from anything but really low, because of the shimmering. If only something could be done about the shimmering of the grass. Try forcing either Adaptive AA (ATI) or Transparency AA (nVidia) through your display driver control panel, it should alleviate the shimmering of the grass.

Thanks, I just tried it, using nvidia inspector instead, I couldnt remove grass shimmering completely, but defintaly lower it to an acceptable low level with sparse grid supersampling, but this gave too much of an fps hit, so ill lower it to only 2x sparse grid AA, or turn it off completely. But its nice to see what it could look like with another generation of graphics card updates. and here's how you can change distance in Options so you don't have to manually edit the Options.lua file With these changes, what do you put in clutterdistance field now? Or it doesnt matter anymore right? Ingame options sets that for us with your new changes? but I find now with all the nice graphics I need a much better video card ..... Yeah I was just thinking the same thing when trying to AA away the grass shimmering. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My Sim/Game CV: Falcon 1,3,4. Gunship. A10 TankKiller. Fighter Bomber. Strike eagle 2&3. Rep inbound for this & the increased town view mod!1  (...Pfft.. can't rep you.. love needs to be spread about!) EDIT: this kills my fps.. so i've had to leave it aside. Here's what I do to compensate for the FPS loss with very high distance for cities and dense grass... I turn mirrors, HDR, TSAA off, don't use more then 4xAA and well, you need good video card, also I turn forests to about 8-10km and grass visibility distance to about 350m. With these I can run >20fps almost all the time, only if I am over populated area and have both TGP and Mavericks on it'll go down in 10's... and on worst case (next to very large city with aircraft around me etc) it'll go to single digits :D Still, as when it's that low it's most extreme situation and when in air it's nicely over 20fps, bit high and it'll stay at 30fps (that's my capped FPS) and that's still playable. I could decrease it a bit but I like the more natural visibility and grass is too sparse on default for my taste. EDIT: if I set grass from 350m to 180m I get about 10% better FPS so I might decrease it like now and stick to that until I get better video card :) (HD7000 where are you?) MadTommy Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Cheers Kuky, but TSAA, AA, HDR etc are too important for me, i have them all set very high or on. The increased town views is sweet and gives me good fps, but unfortunately this grass mod is a killer. For the time being i've turned grass off entirely.
