MP player AFAC

Hi mission makers and assorted peeps:)

 

My concept for a more dynamic mission was to add a playable AFAC flight.

Question 1 would a real AFAC have a wingman?

Question 2 are there enough people prepared to not bomb things and be prepared to lase, share spi, mark with WP etc to make it a viable use of my time? apart from me;)

I am thinking of having maybe 15 different targets and have the afac choose from them. Also is it possible to have a seperate briefing for the flights or seperate messages in game. Co-ordinates sent only to AFAC who then calls up the flight for the tasking?

 

Be interesteing to know what people think of the idea:thumbup:

You're going to have a tough time sending coordinates to only one player without using lua scripting, and modifications to server.lua. Unless you make that one player an enemy so you can use "Message to Coalition".

 

I love the AFAC role, after expending my bombs I will often spend my time spotting out targets for other MP aircraft, if they need it.

 

Personally, I think Black Shark's gonna be where it's at with AFAC in the future, at least I hope.

In Kosovo, I don't know. But in ODS, OEF and OIF the AFACs were often working alone.

I think so. I like the AFAC role, too. Just a few Willy Petes, maybe 1 or 2 Mavs and a lot of time to "play" with my TGP and the datalink, talk to other guys, help them and cruising.

Not realistic but you can set A-10s to other countries. Then you can trigger text messages via "message to country". Maybe there are other and more realistic solutions.

Thanks for the feedback.

Probably make 2 flyable AFAC planes then the choice is down to players.

 

Guess whoever flies those slots will get proficient at creating markpoints and changing laser codes:)

Update. I am going to give the AFAC search boxes made up of waypoints. Maybe 10 boxes spread over the AO with multiple targets in each box. Box sizes maybe 10K x 10K square.

 

Question Can there be a way to set muliple flight plans and script which one is chosen. I am thinking about randomisation here:smilewink:

10kilometers x 10kilometers? That's very small. That should be around 5nm x.5nm. As AFAC, with high altitude to find targets, you have to fly ... maybe 60° bank or more to stay in one box. And with a 60° bank, the TGP is masked very often.

 

I'm working on a mission with killboxes - 20nm x 20nm per killbox. I can cruise at FL 200 and 5°-10° bank and don't overfly the box borders.

IIRC, the killboxes during ODS were 40nm x 40nm.

As far as I know: No. The flightplan which you "draw" in the ME is the only one, which can be set by the mission builder. If pilots want to fly another route, they have to create it in the cockpit.

Or use the "Prepare Flight" option from the Editor and work it all out from the Players' pits. But that's a hassle.

 

I think it easier just to defined the coordinates of the AOAs in the briefing and the player builds the flightplan himself. The briefing can be recalled with the ESC key and building the FP only takes about two minutes. But it does require some dedication on the part of the FAC.
