Ah yes, I do remember reading something about that before. Thanks - that makes sense, then, since if I had to come back around on the target then the LSS did work as expected.

As I said, I will keep flying this mission since for me it has become a sort of "advanced training" kind of thing - it's a good mission it that sense because it incorporates so many of the skills one needs to fly the A-10 successfully in most missions.

Thanks Zenra. Try my new .miz, "Full Frontal". This scenario also incorporates many of the skills needed to fly the A-10 successfully in most missions but they are the opposite skills of those required in "Midnight Run", i.e. seat-of-the-pants flying, dueling with SA-19 launchers at low level. You'll be surprised at how capable the Hog is in killing Tunguskas, once you know what you're doing.

V1.1.1.1

Bahger,

I've been away for a few weeks (work, life, etc.) but always liked this mission. I patched up to v1.1.1.1 and everything seems to work well until I tried to fly Midnight Run again. JTAC responded fine but despite several tries with slightly different approaches the primary target never shows up on the TAD? It could very well be something I am doing wrong, but I flew this mission dozens of times before and always got the red triangle in the TAD after acknowledging ready for further talk on. Do you (or anybody else reading this) know of anything in the more recent patches that might have broken this part of this mission?

I realize I can enter the MRGS coordinates to create a waypoint and hit the primary that way, but am curious whether something changed that renders this mission different due to the patches. Is there something I can edit to fix this?

I don't remember getting any data on the primary target either, but it's perfectly possible without it so I wouldn't fuss over that.

There is, however, a planning issue that I think has arisen due to the age of this mission:

One of the JTAC assignments is to blow up a "camouflaged" ammo depot. The thing is, the payload given to us doesn't have any bombs that can properly destroy it. By that point in the mission you have only one GBU-12 left, possibly two CBU-105's and then the two 65D's.

I think it used to be that the ammo depot only took one hit from a GBU-12 to be destroyed but after a patch they buffed its strength? Anyway, I added a trigger thanks to some help that blew up the ammo depot if it took any damage.

Other than that, once I had completed the primary target, the tank tasking and ammo depot tasking I flew back to Deniro and there were no other messages. I made sure to pass thru the waypoint a few times just to be sure and I still had no tasking or any message of any sort. I decided to RTB at that point and still didn't receive any message. :helpsmilie:

Is it impossible to destroy the bunker when dropping the GBU-12 in pairs? They hit the bunker but it still stood there laughing at me.

Also, when I hovered at waypoint 1 nothing happend... There was some speech (said something that ended with "over" but there was no way to respond to that) so at 23:27 I got bored and went AWOL.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on what to actually do? I don't quite understand the briefing...

I've tried Midnight Run four times now under DCS World 1.2.3 and unfortunately it looks like something in this version keeps Warrior from using a laser to designate the command bunker (the primary target). Everything he says is like before, except he says "no mark" and there a Laser Spot Search yields nothing.

I tried a couple of times as is, thinking I might be doing something wrong, and then I loaded it up in the ME to try a few things. Warrior Is set to mark "Auto", so I changed that to "Laser" hoping that would do the trick, but no joy. I can still take out the bunker by picking it out of the gloom with the TGP, but I like the concept of searching for the JTAC laser.

Bahger, I know you put a lot of time into these missions and continue producing more , but is there any chance you could load it up in the ME and see if you spot anything amiss?

Wow, that was made many versions ago, Zenra. I will take a look.

I know, and I didn't mean to commit thread necromancy just for myself. Just thought you might want to know, and if someone new to the sim downloads the mission.

I replay Midnight Run often after having to take the inevitable break when work, life, etc. gets in the way - I have to admit I just love the mission, and find it a great way to refamiliarize myself with the jet.

Love your later stuff, too. Flying Partol by Force now and having a blast!

Excellent, glad to hear it, thanks!

Can this mission by chance be made CA compatible?

Hmm, good question. I have yet to dip a toe in CA, as I heard it was very Beta-ish. Usually I'm an early adopter but I just know I'd be spending as much time debugging it as playing it. One day though...

Bahger,

All you need to do to make a mission CA compatible is to enable "Pilot can Control Vehicles" in SP, or allow a Ground Force CM in multiplayer. Both of these options are available in the "two flags" icon (named Battlefield Commanders) in the ME.

The real question is whether allowing CA would break the balance or your often intricate triggers.

Well, I think I'll need to acquire CA first and play around with it, before making my missions CA-compatible. I like the idea of it but, having been an early adopter of almost all the DCS flight sim products in btea, I think I'll let others work out the kinks in CA.

Having had a blast playing your recent missions I decided to give your older work a try. Had just as much fun playing this one. Good stuff.

However, over the years some things appear to have been broken (the indestructible ammo depot and TF Midnight never leaving their holding point at D-Town being the most notable), so I had to make a few changes to be able to finish the mission. Let me know if you want the updated version.

I actually meant Bahger, so he can review and update the older version if he agrees. He deserves the credit after all.

Awesome Keats - thanks for the extra effort. Will definitely give it a try.

Wonder if Warrior will lase the target now?

He always did before, but i think the DCSW transition borked certain JTAC mark functions.

Unfortunately, no, Warrior will not lase the target. I experimented a bit with this and it only works with vehicles as JTAC. The DCS user manual has the following to say about this (p.197):

Only armed units can designate a target with smoke and laser. (e.g. APC M1043 HMMWV Armament).

Apparently infantry doesn't count. Using a Humvee as a covert spec-ops unit seems a bit far fetched to me :smilewink:
