Sorry.. but..

I've downloaded and installed the 1.0.2EN update.. and I'm now being talked to in Russian.. subtitles in English.. Betty sounds different too!! Is there another button I've yet to find?

 

I am enjoying this but.. how come I'm not being shot out of the air by some fighters like a WWII spitfire or something? Any tactical knowledge out there? I feel like I'm flying just the sort of thing needed to put down rebels in their toyota pickups and maybe a few tanks as long as they cant see me and dont have 'track back' laser guided missile defence..

 

Did (vietnam say) helicopters ever get involved in air battles? Is there the equivalent of a fighter helicopter? Or is it always a bit like in Avatar.. but without the flying 'dragons' ..enough already

He, am I the only one that like that it's in Russian. The english voices sound terrible it feels like I am in a cheesy dubbed action movie from the 80ties.

 

 

Also, it appears that you have not yet come to the point in the campaign where you find yourself against two apache helicopters.. :joystick:

 

 

But yeah, the Blackshark isn't really meant to be engaging in air to air combat even though it can.

Not strictly speaking, no. There have been occassions of Mi-24's taking on air policing duties against slow-moving aircraft (if the unknown aircraft is a low-mover like a Cessna, trying to handle it with a MiG-29 isn't all that easy), but that's been standard Mi-24's, not an A2A variant thereof. The only case of "A2A-tasked" helicopters I know of is US Marine Corps Cobras, but their A2A tasking was mainly self-escort during CSAR - not interception or anything really equivalent to CAP. (Though I guess you could say they had counter-Helo CAP as part of their tasking.) Their main job was still to protect the rescue operation against ground threats. Those few attack helicopters that have A2A weapons have them only as a self-defence capability.

 

In the early days of the Black Shark it was believed in some quarters of the west to be an A2A helicopter, but AFAIK that was largely due to a successful disinformation/counter-espionage operation conducted by soviet security forces rather than something that the helicopter was ever actually meant to do. (They also managed to fool many satellite and photo observations to believe it was a two-seater.)

Attack from above and behind = defenceless Kamov. From the left also works due to the limited gun traverse on the Kamov.
