I am trying to use my track IR with this game and it is just about impossible. I've used some settings that were recommended by various individuals, I've completely eliminated back lighting but no matter what, I cannot use track IR, or to be more precise, I cannot use track IR for in-cockpit use. Track IR is fine for flying; I can fly ok, look around, etc. but for in-cockpit use, it's just not possible. I can look down but the view is just too unstable for me to effectively hit the various switches that are needed. While going through the startup training mission, I have to hover over the off key then once I get a view of the specific panel/area, I quickly hit it to turn off the trackIR then flick the switches. I then turn it back on but once I get adept at using the cockpit and flying missions this will allow me to be an effective pilot. Is my camera too close perhaps? I have it on top of my middle monitor about 2 foot away, or should I upgrade to a newer model? I have trackIR 4 - are there improvements in the newer models? If anyone has any suggestions as to how to improve the use of it I would greatly appreciate hearing them as this is a major stumbling block to my game playing.

I have mine mounted fairly close as well (24" or so) and sped up the z-axis in TIR so that I could look down with much less head movement. This might help.

I have also noticed that I get much better results at this close of spacing from the TIR receiver using the hat clip vs. the pro clip, which is counter to what most people might tell you. Basically, don't expect a pro clip to solve your problems, especially if you have to mount the receiver close (2').

In any case, try a combination of more spacing if you can and/or tweaks to the z-axis in TIR and see if that helps.

Oh, also, when you are setting up TIR in "camera view" try to make sure the three reflectors are towards the TOP middle of the screen, not just in the middle. Thus, you have much more area of movement looking down (within the cockpit) and to move your head around before the reflectors are "off the grid" - that is when things go haywire. It makes sense to do this since you won't ever be needing to go "up" within the grid - so set your view near the top, if that makes sense.

My camera is also about 2ft away form the receiver, I have TIR4 and it works no problem.

When I started flying DCS (BS and A10) I had issues where I couldn't keep still, but now its fine with a little practice.

I used to use the F7 freeze trackir key, but now am used to small head movements.

The z-axis does help a lot.

I highly recommend the use of the TIR pause function (mapped to stick) or panel snap views when trying to stabilize your view on a specific MFD or panel. It really does take some getting used to and some tweaking. Once you get it just right you will love it. Don't give up.

Best of luck.
