I read that the system requirements include a Phenom processor. Before I spend the money to get A-10C I wanted to check the requirements a little closer. I currently am using an Athlon processor. If that doesn't cut it then I do not need to go on further. THX

Recomended specs are listed on www.digitalcombatsimulator.com For reference. My cpu is barely getting by. Single digit fps at times...chug..chug

The thing is that I have the following computerspecs (which i see as high-end) and I'm getting only around 12-15 FPS in a crowded airport.

In the air it's ok, i get about 25-45 FPS.

OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)

Mobo: ASUS P8P67 WS Revolution B3

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K @ 4.5GHz (with Noctua NH-D14 CPU-cooler)

GPU: Radeon HD6990 (925 MHz/gpu-core and 1380MHz/memory)

RAM: G.Skill Sniper 1866MHz 8GB

HDD: OCZ SSD Vertex 3 MAX IOPS + Western Digital 1TB 7200rpm HDD

How about you, how many FPS do you get in airports? I'm very interested!

My machine is pretty low end now a days and after 1.1.0.8 frame rates are down so low as to make flying pretty pointless.

Win 7 64 bit

Nvidia 8800GT

4 Gigs DDR2 RAM

Intel Quad Core @ 2.4MHz

Asus P5N32E-sli plus Mobo.

I'm a student right now so need to wait till the end of my degree to get a new machine. It's going to be a long 4 months!!!!!!

Airbase 5(ish) FPS

In the air is ok at around 15-20 when not much is going on.

WOW I am no where near as computer knowledgeable as I thought. Let's see if I get this right...

Operating System: Windows 7 64 bit

Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 630

Core Speed: 798.0 MHz

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5450 1 GB

Memory: 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 2 DIMMs

Hard Drive: 500 GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0 Gb/s, 16MB Chache

That was all copied directly from the invoice (or whatever it is called). Some of it I know what it is and means, some of it I heard of and have an idea, while other stuff is "greek" to me. Am I missing any info. that would help.

I downloaded and ran that CPU-Z so if there might be some info. on there that would be helpful I can add that on here too.

Your cpu is 2.8 ghz according to a google search. You are doing better in that department than me. Your OS is good. Video card will probably work. Mine never goes over 25% usage..well it didn't with 07 patch. I think you will be ok. Definately look at upgrading in the future though.

That clock speed looks funny. The 630 should be 2.8GHz. I suspect the "core speed" refers to the graphics card?

CPU-wise you should be fine - not superb but fine. I'm not terribly good with the Radeons though but I worry about it a bit. Someone with a better grasp of the mid-to-low AMD's would have to give you advice on that.

HD5450 is low end... the game will most likely run but you won't be able to use high res, AA, AF shadows etc as card can't run at good fps with those on.

Probably the speed of the RAM actually DDR2 800mhz.

edit: or not, I see he's got that listed sperately as DDR3 -missed that at first.

OK...I am going to bite the bullet! How do I go about buying it? I would prefer to buy a boxed version but I also tried to buy the download from the DCS website and I cannot figure out how to checkout. I am registered and signed in but it tells me to still sign in. I am going to look some more but does anyone have any suggestions? Where can I get the boxed version?

I included this on the thread with my current computer specs. so that someone can read what I am running and whether or not I should buy it with those specs.

EDIT: Now the "Prceed" button showed up but I am probably going to wait to read any input that someone might have. Now that I think about it I DO need to get to bed on time tonight so I better wait or else I am going to be up late figuring it out.

F.Y.I. I figured I could not use A-10 so I loaded Falcon. WOW...what a difference.

Also: Should I have TrackIR before buying this? THOUGHTS?

TrackIR isn't a have-to......it's more like a "NEED-TO" when it comes to this, it makes flying so much better.

TrackIR will improve your SA and the overall enjoyment of the sim. Frees up a hat for other functions as well. I"ve not regreted buying it at all.

I would certainly like it before flying A10C but if you are use to using a hat for views get the sim first.

Yeah...that is what I am thinking Qazme and Sarge. TrackIR is my next purchase. I have used a hat for FSX, Falcon, among other things for years. That will give me time to learn A-10C I think before I get into any missions.

I managed fine without TrackIR for ages, though now I've got it I don't think I could fly without it. Infact I tried a while ago, it's amazing the difference it makes. Without TrackIR the game looks like a 2d screen....With it, it feels like you're in the cockpit....I know that sounds ridiculous as youre looking at the same image, but it's certainly true for me!

Yeah I agree, you think you can fly without the TrackIR but when you try it you won't fly without it because it improves the sim alot and you can enjoy it even more. I recommend TrackIR 5 though, it has a lot better resolution than TrackIR 4.
