  1. Nerf = take away damage potential. I would say that has happened. I understand why they did it and what they've done. Just don't understand the timing I guess. Hopefully I've gotten a temporary fix for it while I wait on the next patch. ;)
  2. I've gotten plenty of gun kills before this patch. I don't have a 'lack' of practice. However I will say I was a bit disgruntled last night since it was the first time I had flown since the .9 patch so I may not have been exactly accurate since I was a bit miffed at the time. This is exactly the point I was trying to make. Taking a weapon that's available and totally making it useless against the intended target because in a month or more a patch will be made available that will correctly model it is dumb, in my opinion. I know they are doing good work most of the time but this one really doesn't make sense to me.
  3. Well hopefully the wait will be worth it.....and hopefully we don't have to wait long. Killing tanks with clusters is one of the best parts of this aircraft and it has been effectively ruined. Apparently guns aren't doing anything either. I put multiple bombs and gun runs on one target last night and it didn't do jack. Ended up having to put a GBU-12 down it's throat to kill it. A bit overkill I think. Wouldn't it have been better to wait a do all these changes in the same freakin' patch so that we have a usable assortment? Regardless if it's modeled 100% accurate or not. Just seems rather dumb to me. And before I get flamed with ED supporters, I love the sim and the company. I've always waited patiently for the patches to come out and have always appreciated the changes. I understand they are currently making way for more accurate models of the 97/105's, I just find it a bit backwards to do it the way they have, and I'm aggravated that my sim is ruined till the next patch.....
  4. This is going to rock some socks I hope. Can't wait to fly with a group on it!
  5. For you steam guys, in 1.1.0.8 patching this way broke at least multiplayer. If not some other things. Best thing to do if you don't like to wait is download the full installer and install it stand alone with the CD Key that Steam gives you. That's what I've done and couldn't be happier. No more waiting.
  6. Thanks Vyper we have a great group of guys who fly pretty regular. We will be sure to work this in somewhere. Your math is horrible, if it leaves -4 people that match but you are added it would not be the positive category. IT would still be -3!! lol We know what you mean though. Not to mention I know of at least 5 guys who will be hopefully using some of these tactics pretty soon to break up the wingman in and out calls.
  7. Unless you are flying low, then they make perfect sense. High drag bombs are meant to give you enough time to clear the blast area before you get damage on your aircraft from your own munitions. Typically you wouldn't want to drop a 500lb bomb at 500ft unless it is high drag or you risk losing your own plane. They come in extremely handy when flying in low to take out targets... Also don't blame the inaccuracies of these bombs on the bombs. Most of it has to do with people not properly understanding, rather it be from training(lack there-of) or habit, on how to proper employ them.
  8. Hey you forgot to mention practice. And I'll add one to that....patience.
  9. Absolutely correct. I've gotten more fun out of the sim since I learned the 'basics' that when I was learning a bit on how to fight here. A whole lot of fun.
  10. I prefer it for all my other games. Works pretty good for them. Not to mention I don't have to keep CD's protected etc. etc. I don't understand the hostility towards Steam, lol.
  11. I like to learn the hard way I suppose. I jumped into this sim without flying KA-50 or Flaming cliffs etc. I had a lot of previous flight simulator x time and a good bit of janes sim etc. years ago. When I decided to fly this sim, once you go through the training missions you have enough information to get you airborne and general usage. Everything after that is what I consider the hard learning. Fly until you have a problem, can't figure it out, cuss and try everything you can then hit the forums and the manual. Doing it that way I was up to what I would have considered 100% ready until I started encountering heavy air defenses, and quickly realized I needed to learn some additional tricks. Forums/manual time once again. Now about 2 months into it all I'm pretty damn efficient with each aspect of the sim, I don't know it all but I can hang with the majority of the crowd, live through the missions, and blow stuff up! As equipment goes, as the other have said you don't have to have all these wonderfully overpriced sticks etc. However it is HIGHLY advised to have a trackir and some sort of hotas. You don't necessarily have to go with the most expensive but I always tell people now at least an X-52 and trackir. I've gotten it to the point now I don't even touch the keyboard while flying! I think where the guys who do spend the time to learn the aircraft get aggravated is this - we spend the time learning the navigation, weapons employments, and some of the checklists. We are heavy in battle online and some guy comes in asking where the targets are, which direction he needs to fly, or complaining because he keeps getting shot down. All we ask is either come in online and learn it the hard way, or stay offline for a month or so till you can at least get to the fight, because once we are involved we don't want to have to explain a bunch of stuff, we want to fight!!
  12. When you do this it breaks multiplayer....you can not patch with the same process, at least it didn't work for me. The easiest way to take care of it, is use the CD KEY from Steam and download the full version from the DCS website. And install the non-steam version. Since it's already activated on your computer it will not require another activation, in fact don't be surprised if it doesn't even ask you to do it. That's what I did, not to mention there is no reason to buy it through Steam since they don't have a 64bit version of the ingame chat system which kind of blows the whole idea. As far as Steam being a root kit, it doesn't have anything that runs besides the Steam executable....in fact games like these are the only ones that use any "protection" most pure steam games use a steam.dll in there root directories that simply lookup your account online to make sure you paid for the game. If you did it's activated. No starforce or anything.
  13. Nice enough mission but nothing is shooting at us in MP? I got within 7 miles of an SA-13 and it never even spiked me on the RWR. Can anyone confirm if this is what is supposed to be happening?
  14. I use "Aircraft Checklist" from Android market. You can make anything you want and it's extremely powerful once you get to using it. Of course you have to make your own checklists. However you can make them in xml format on the computer and transfer them over. As far as this checklist it looks ok and everything from Android, except that ad of whatever it is at the top. My tablet uses Dolphin HD so it doesn't load flash until I click on it so the checklist it moved half way down the page with a huge white box over it and another blackbox with a green arrow waiting for me to click it to load your ad. I suggest you put a donation link on the bottom of the page with a nice button or something and take the ads off if you ever want to get serious about it. The iPhone app out now is free, and the Aircraft Checklist I use from the market has less obtrusive ads. Just a suggestion. If anyone is interested in making their own version and has hosting, you can get the source to his list here, http://jquerymobile.com/, pretty nice setup preconfigured just add in your options.
  15. If you are using the trackIR 5 software you select your title. Then check mark the "exclusive" box.
When dropping a bomb the plane can suffer damage from it's own munitions when dropping from too low of an altitude. So on a high drag bomb they fit special tail fins onto it to slow the descent of the bomb to allow the plane to get out of the impact area and mimimize risk of the plane taking a hit. Read this wiki about the MK-82 bomb and see if it helps you make anymore sense out of it. I hope this makes sense to you, the language barrier at times can be troubling.
  17. You want the airport elevation at 0 that way you know how high off the runway you are! If they gave you see level 2992 the it would read off from the actual elevation from the ground you are at, at the time. As far as the PBIL and designations I've not had that issue. Post a track and maybe someone can help you out.
  18. I'll answer what I know off the top of my head. If battle damage includes your right wing where your pitot tube is it could be a permanent failure. If your speed is still reading from your standby gauge then you can do an inflight bits test with the IFFCC switch on test to see if it's recoverable. Not sure if it's a bug or what, I haven't had it happen since the 1108 patch and I think it's generated from the system failures stuff since I've turned those off in 1108. However when it did happen to me you can goto the waypoint page (func 3 --> waypoints) on the UFC and do a wapoint search in the scratch pad for "MSN001" and hit RLSK1 on the cdu to restore your cdu to working order. If it's an error you can try reloading your DSMS information. Long press a button on your MFCD till the loading screen comes up. Select "load" and place it on one of the bottom buttons. Once the page has returned to normal select the load button and "load dsms" to see if it returns to normal. If it doesn't then you have probably recieved unrecoverable damage to your gun. Sometimes damage has hit in a place that makes it not recoverable. However one of the things I do to see if it works again is to go to "func 2" on the UFC. Once there change your right MFCD to CDU and select align. once the align page opens up select flight or in flight can't remember how it's worded at the moment. This should realign all your navigation systems. Just be aware it will take a bit of time so go someplace safe. I'm sure it works, I haven't tested off to see how much less effective evasive actions are, however I would imagine it could be much worse. I've never let mine for far enough I normally turn EO off if I know I'm not going to be using it and turn it back on ~4.5 minutes out from my next mission. However from what I've read if you leave them on it will mess up the missile.
  19. Just a hint and tip, weapons delivery needs to be the very last set of things you learn. AFAIK you need to have an understanding on the flight dynamics, navigation, and electronics down before. Walk before you run or you'll end up on your face. (OF course this is if you take it seriously and don't want to end up aggravated. Sometimes aggravation is what leads to brilliance.)
  20. Actually that's the whole point, throttle will give you finer input, that isn't so reactionary to keep you on target easier. If you do it all with the stick you will be all over the place. The throttle adjustments are much more fine grained and easier to estimate where you will end up. This is why on page 501 of the manual it tells you to use the (TVV) Total Velocity Vector, in the heads up display to best estimate your touchdown position. Obviously in bad weather the usefulness of that goes down and is when you would rely upon ILS. 10 degrees is what I use, not sure if you can give it more but if you are setup right on approach with you AoA and speed, speed brakes out 40%, once you chop throttles and touch down you will already be slightly flared and you are generally trying to maintain that attitude until the speed come down enough to drop the nose. Yup pitot like to come off if you get hit lol. I make sure mines there when I come back. As far as learning putting your TVV onto the runway is the right way to do it. From page 501 of the manual under "Landing" the very first thing is mentions in the key points: You can also use the Total Velocity Vector(TVV) symbol on the HUD to best estimate your touchdown position. Remember guys if you want to learn it, read about it first. The try it. Then dig up video's and tutorials lol.
  21. Just a slight constructive criticism. Instead of saying "press this button" or "rocker switch" etc. give the proper names like "OSB9" or "LSK5". Also When you are describing what to set on the UFC to get into the Offset page instead of saying click this, and circling it with your mouse, say "Press Function 4" or "Function button then 4". Remember there will be people watching and listening to this while flying to learn it. And some will even have their manuals open and will need the proper names to lookup what you are talking about. Just constructive criticism. Keep up the good work and good luck.
  22. lol you know what I'm saying. Meanwhile, is there any way we can stretch out the menu to see the full loadouts or customize it? Maybe a list of loadouts? It seems I remember someone posting a list of it somewhere but I can't find it now.
  23. Yeah I wouldn't be quoting for everyone, because I wouldn't pay over $60 for any sim. It took a lot of talking myself into paying what I did for A-10. I mean I love it and all but not that much.
