Hello to you all

I would like to ask if training rounds of Mavericks and other weapons have any usage in the simulator.

If for example, lets say in nevada, create a training scenario will the simulated attack have any results in the loogbook?

Could training rounds be usefull in any training mission?

If not it would be good if it could intergrated in another patch in accordance with an ACMI which will verify the results .

After all how nany aircrews fired live ordance during training?:smilewink:

Thanks in advance

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

I will try it out at let you know later, I do not think it is implemented. Training weapons is more to practice using the weapons systems without destroying the target. Making easier to practice.

That way you don't have to place 100 vehicle, you can keep attacking the few and practice the systems.

Was also wondering this myself... IE: why use training ammo when the real stuff costs the same amount :)

Other than the above listed not having to place more than 1 target

Because ideally the logbook should only show kills from actual real missions.

The other way to do it is to create a practice pilot, then you can still watch things blow up without putting fake kills in the logbook :)

The primary reason training munitions are not used in the training missions is that we have not yet developed a good way of tracking their impact locations. However, this is something we still wish to include.

Nice....I still use them tracked or not...I posted a video today showing me dropping BDU-33s on youtube. First drop is about 1:30 into the video.

For real life reasons, it has to do with the same as above as well as range restrictions. Dropping a bunch of live weapons just destroys the practice targets that are on the range, as well as creating a huge hazard to anyone who has to maintain the range. As for range restrictions...for instance in the US there are not that many live ranges that are certified to have live ordinance expended from aircraft. The bigger areas are down in Florida, Nevada, Utah, etc...places like that. The inert weapons allow actual weapons release and guidance training without the effect of the big booms. The Dare County range in NC for instance cannot do live weapons as it is out in marsh lands. But, pilots from all over the east coast use it to drop inert weapons all day long. For our pilots to do any kind of live training, they have to fly to Florida or attend one of the live fire excercises such as Red/Green flag out west or down south.

Is GAU-8 Target Practice Round (TP) making the target explode in the Sim?

I haven't got to try this yet ...

Yes, 378g of 30mm steel going 1021m/s will still cause damage.

BDU-33 is good to carry 12+ for practice with a nice lasting smoke charge.

PGU-15 rounds are very nice to actually see the bullets in mid-air and shows exactly why you should never overfly the target on a gun run!

Hah! Never thought to try that. That was pretty cool. Some nice screen shots.
