Wayc00lio Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I've not got the best pc in the world and have been having problems with FPS but after messing about with settings, here are the ones that work best for me which allow the smoothest flight around high density action and the airbases. Firstly, as a marker of just how out dated my machine is, and therefore you can judge if these settings will work for you if you are in the same boat as me: Specs: Intel Quad Core2 Q6600 @2.4Ghz 4Mb DDR2 RAM Nvidia 8800GT Win7 64bit Settings: Textures: Low Scenes: Medium Civ Traffic: Off Water: Low Visib Range: High Heat Blur: Off Shadows: Low Res Cockpit display: 1024 every frame MSAA: Off HDR: Low Vsync: Unchecked Cockpit Shadows: Unchecked MSSAA: Unchecked Clutter Brushes: Far Left Trees: Far left Mirrors: Unchecked. These settings allow for an immersive experience with a flyable sim (stutters in places but hey - can't win them all). It's still pretty good just with some of the bells and whistles turned off. Man, I can't wait to get a better spec machine and see it in its glory!!! I hope that helps some of you struggling with FPS :-) Mirrors: Unchecked [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus ROG Rampage Extreme VI; i9 7900X (all 10 cores at 4.5GHz); 32 Gb Corsair Dominator DDR4; EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid; 1Tb Samsung 960 Evo M2; 2Tb Samsung 850 Pro secondary. Oculus Rift; TM Warthog; Saitek Combat Pros.
jpanside Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 why have vis range on high and cockpit res display on 1024? wouldnt lower them help?
hassata Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Try this, and see if fps to iq ratio is better: Textures: MEDIUM Scenes: Medium Civ Traffic: Off Water: Low Visib Range: MEDIUM Heat Blur: Off Shadows: MEDIUM Res Cockpit display: 256-more realistic anyhow. MSAA: 2x or even 4x HDR: NONE Vsync: Unchecked Cockpit Shadows: Unchecked MSSAA: Unchecked 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Wayc00lio Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Well I wanted to see targets. Everything else I can live with. Wayc00lio Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 I'll see if that makes a difference :-) Thanks hassata [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus ROG Rampage Extreme VI; i9 7900X (all 10 cores at 4.5GHz); 32 Gb Corsair Dominator DDR4; EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid; 1Tb Samsung 960 Evo M2; 2Tb Samsung 850 Pro secondary. Crosser Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Honestly I haven't seen any reason to have Visib Range on High, the TGP doesn't seem to see much further anyways (atleast it didn't in previous versions-tried many times) and it's not like you can visually spot ground units or even air units from that far away. Too tiny of a pixel
Wayc00lio Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) OK, got the following settings which I'm happy with: Textures: Medium Scenes: Medium Civ Traffic: Off Water: Low Visib Range: Medium Heat Blur: Off Shadows: High Res Cockpit display: 512 MSAA: Off HDR: Low Vsync: Unchecked Cockpit Shadows: Unchecked MSSAA: Unchecked Clutter Brushes: Far Left Trees: Far left Mirrors: Unchecked. Getting ave FPS around the 20-30ish mark. That's good enough for me :-) Thanks for your input and thanks to Raptor of the 16th ACCW for his excellent input also :-) Cheers all. I really need a new cpu lol Shez, you and I have very similar hardware (for me, a Q9300 Quad with an HD5770) but I'm getting FPS averages in the 30's. Shez Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I must have something royally misconfigured. Could be my mobo. No new drivers or bios updates for it. I get 18 is fps in a flight when it's just me. 10 fps in most single player missions. In devils cross im lucky to break 7. _:Windows 10 64 Bit, I7 3770 3.4Ghz, 16 Gigs Ram, GTX 960, TM Warthog, Track IR 5 w/Pro Clip:_

rockyalexander Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 What visual changes occur after setting lights and haze to 0?
Conure Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Have there been any official statements that 256 is more realistic on the monitor displays? Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
Shez Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I know if you turn lights to zero you won't get any runway lights. I think it kills city lighting too. I'm not sure about aircraft lights. I believe haze is just what it sounds like. Kills the Haze on the horizon. _:Windows 10 64 Bit, I7 3770 3.4Ghz, 16 Gigs Ram, GTX 960, TM Warthog, Track IR 5 w/Pro Clip:_

shadowmind Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Specs: Intel Quad Core2 Q6600 @2.4Ghz 4Mb DDR2 RAM Nvidia 8800GT Win7 64bit Don't feel bad, I've got a similar setup. Specs: Intel Quad Core2 Q6600 @2.4Ghz 4Mb DDR2 RAM Nvidia GTX 470 Win7 64bit I've done a bunch of profiling to find where the bottle necks are on my system. It appears that A-10 is either single threaded or very close to it. The game rails one core while the other three cores sit and spin. My video card is just about idle while playing the game. Here are my settings that I use. I get around 20-25 FPS while engaging targets, but sometimes it goes as high as 70+, it is really inconsistent. Textures: High Scenes: Medium Civ Traffic: Off Water: Low Visib Range: Medium Heat Blur: Off Shadows: Low Res Cockpit display: 512 MSAA: 4x HDR: Unchecked Vsync: On Cockpit Shadows: Unchecked MSSAA: Unchecked Clutter Brushes: Far Left Trees: Far left Mirrors: Unchecked. The settings don't appear to make much of a difference. The Q6600 can be overclocked pretty easily. I run it at 2.8 GHz.
Speed Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) In my experience, you should never have cockpit displays on 1024, unless you have a supercomputer and nothing better to do with your CPU cycles. It's a huge drain on your PC and you have to work at it to notice any difference at all between 256 and 1024. stormrider Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 One thing that helped me was to lower the monitor main resolution. Since I run it from a Bootcamp partition under a Macbook Pro, I use a external display. In the nvidia config, I deselected the laptop´s display, so the external is the main and only display. Besides that, I lowered the windows7 resolution to match the one I select in game. From 15fps I went to almost 30fps flying with medium quality graphics. Banned by cunts.
