Frostiken Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Besides a really god damn dirty A-10. I see a Sniper XR, 4 GBU-38s (two of which are oddly colored?), and some rockets... and a mysterious... thing. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
MTFDarkEagle Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 That's the additional flare pod. See page 68 on the manual. Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread

hassata Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Stupid question: what's inside the wheel well next to pet that's painted black on front? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
rockyalexander Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Stupid question: what's inside the wheel well next to pet that's painted black on front? Are you referring to the pave penny?
hassata Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 The wheel well right side of the aircraft where the gear retracts into is painted black on the front. i was just wondering why that is [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

MTFDarkEagle Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Why is that panel (or cover) painted black? Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
Slothface Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 (edited) Radar and antenna cones (covers) have to be painted with special paint and with as few layers of paint as possible for the performance of signal reception/transmission. The cone itself is usually a plastic or composite of somekind too rather then metal. I believe the special nose cone paint only used to come in black. Now it comes in all sorts of colours to match aircraft liveries. Notice that nearly all airliners used to have black nose cones... now they're all body coloured. Maybe an aircraft engineer/painter out there on the forums could give us a more specific answer to my simple "general knowledge" one :) Edited June 12, 2011 by Slothface Sloth "You get enough sleep when you're dead!" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- TM WH HOTAS, TM Cougar MFDs, TrackIR 5 Pro Processor: i5 2.67Ghz Board: Intel DP55WB Video: Nvidia GTX650 Ti Boost RAM: 8Gb DDR3 1333MHz OS: Win7
ARM505 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 (edited) This may be simpler than everyone thinks - IF you're referring to the black eliptical area, isn't that like a 'fake' canopy, painted to confuse an opponent as to which side up the A10 is? :) Edited June 13, 2011 by ARM505
Krebs20 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 IF you're referring to the black eliptical area, isn't that like a 'fake' canopy, painted to confuse an opponent as to which side up the A10 is? :) Correct. From the ground you see the a10 roll be it might throw you off to witch way its turning. Might be just the trick a pilot needs to escape AAA. Or anything else that wants to shoot at it.
