I'm not sure why my bombs track moving targets sometimes, and not others. I have a track I'm attaching as an example. In the attached track, my first GBU-12 fails to follower the laser and misses the target. Later, an MK-82 also misses (but I'm not sure I'm doing the MK-82 correctly, have to read up on that one). But, the GBU-12... my second attempt works, as does all my MAVs. Just wondering what I do wrong sometimes that the GBU-12/38 miss?

MK-82's are unguided and affected by wind. Haven't got time to start up the game but how long are you lasing and from what altitude?

Just a quick note: LGB's need to be dropped from 10,000 ft or higher. This gives time to them to steer to the target. Also, look at the time to impact. Fom 14 seonds on it is a good time to lase the target. Too early or too late it can miss.

This is an amazing sim! 'Nuff said!:pilotfly:

Auto lase is a nice thing.. You'll find it in the dsms profiles page.

Unless the situation is changing rapidly, and there is no time to prepare, I can't think of any reason not to use Autolaze. Time and timing is taken care of and your hand is free.

What MemphisBelle said. You have some 4 minutes on the ground doing nothing as your nav systems align. Use them. ;)

That would be when I set Autolaze to on and Laze Time to 12 sec.

What I was trying to say is that I do not understand why you would not always use Auto Laze. Manual, even with Latch On, seems to be an extra bit of work for no discernable benefit.

Unless, I am missing something about LGBs.

If you autolase, you are unable to drop bombs on someone else's laser.

Another thing is multiple-target ripples with LGB's, where manual laser control is definitely desirable.

Thanks. I never considered the multiple option. I am currently happy to be able to succesfully put one LGB on one target so the ripple part did slip my mind.

As for the other, I don't do MP and I have not played with enough missions to run into that situation.

I don't really feel that this has practical relevance, especially when you can use LSS.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Different laser codes on different bombs, and several buddies lasing different targets, only one shooter passing into the target area to deliver. Though yes - not exactly the most common occurance and of limited practical use. But cool. :D

Thanks. I think I mostly understand the process, and I usually hit my targets with the guided bombs, but every once in a while, I miss and I'm not sure why. Like, today, I had laser on a stationary target, dropped a GBU-18 from 12k feet and it never picked up the laser and changed trajectory. It sailed wide of the target. Does it matter if I turn the laser after I I lock the target in the TGP and just leave the laser on while I fly to the release point and then drop the bomb? Or do I need to turn the laser on and off?

Also, in the same mission today, I watched my computer controlled wingman make a run on a convoy. He flew in, and once he got within about 2 miles, flying in low toward convoy, he fired three mavericks, taking out all three targets in one quick move. How can you manipulate the MAVs so quicky? It takes me a while to get one target locked in the TGP, and then I make one pass, fire, and repeat. I never get in close. But this was a very quick approach, and within a short distance and close to the target, he targeted and eliminated three enemies very quickly. It really impressed me, and made me wonder how that was possible?
