Does anyone use any kind of goggles that project the image in front of your eyes, with Track IR to make a virtual reality?

If this thing exists I would buy it immediately, regardless of cost.

Anyone know of such a thing?

There are, however they are quite expensive. With the clickable Pit it might work, however the issue I think will be finding the mouse/joystick

I know and what you speak and I have tried in the store. I've only been 5 minutes with his googles on and it burned my eyes. In the end, this almost a year ago, I bought the 4 Track go pro, and not change it for anything.

I recommend the track to go forever. Enjoyed it more.

There was a company that was selling VR goggles to the consumer market for about $1,000.

So the view changed to where you looked (so Track IR not necessary).

Problems: The view would get of sync with your head position. The screen definition was too low to accurately distinguish ground targets. I experimented with them and did not like them. My preference is for 3 screens with Track IR.

However that was 4 years ago, and the technology should have improved: http://www.virtualresearch.com/products.html

I have tried the professional ones, and their screen definition is better, but the helmet is cumbersome, and they cost +$40,000! http://www.rockwellcollins.com/sitecore/content/Data/Products/Displays/Soldier_Displays/SimEye_SX45_Helmet_Mounted_Display.aspx

Thanks for the replies! I have done a little research and on an impulse bought something called Vizux 920 wrap. I think it has been tried before, there is an old thread on KA50 about it, apparently the resolution is too low for serious use but hopefully soon it will improve enough to be an amazing experience at a affordable price.

I have no room for a big screen setup, so a virtal reality solution would be ideal for me. As for not being able to see the keyboard, most Hawg use is HOTAS or clickable cockpit so I dont see it being much of a problem.

Hi JimMack,

Those virtual research ones look pretty good! Howver I think 40k might be more than I can afford at the moment..

Do people get seasick after using such products for elongated periods?

After about 15 minutes I did get a feeling of dis-orientation. But this was old technology. I am sure there are military here who are using HMDs and will give better feedback.

Yeah but that a HMD got your head covered and large lense (if it exist).

The sea sickness problem is due to the fact that people brain (those who have one) expect a congruence of feedback that make sense:

Movement of scenário registered by the eyes should have a feedback of movement of air + sense of balance given by the liquid in your ears that act as an artificial horizon + "gyroscope".

Some people are more sensible to the some failure of integrated feedback and get sick more easely. Some people maybe totally impervious to sea sickness and some people adadt, but most don t.

I remember a friend that was dead sick each time he saw someone playing Descent !

And i remember a Nat geo program where they showed a cabin like a boat not moving and screens around it showing the image of a boat rocking as if you where in the cabin. Some people stayed still and others just started to rock to compensate for the sea movement to the point of loosing stance cause the floor did not "move" as it should have.

A good example is: next time your on the backsit of a car remaining seated, look 90 degree up right into the sky, especially on a sunny day with light clouds, chances are you ll get seasick after sometime.

Such googles have high chances to cause the same effect. And another point maybe is, if you don t know exactly where each button is how will you reach keyboard, throttle buttons... even on a full pit.

Well I spend 6 months of the year on ships in the North Sea and have never been seasick, I have never been airsick either. I certainly do not expect to get airsick from using a HMD, just as I dont when using Track IR

I am not in the sligtest bit worried about being able to find the keyvoard or mouse, I can type without looking at the keyboard and can also play the piano two handed. You just DO these things. Besides its a clickable cockpit.

Hi Sov13t

Yes I saw those as well. I decided to get the 920s in the mean time to see what they are like. I got the wrap 920s reconditioned so they were cheap. If they are any good I will upgrade to the 1200s depending on reviews and price. My 920s arrived today, they are an impressive looking piece of kit, Good quality on first impression. They have sort of miniture HUDs, like a lense in front of each eye. Unfortunately I havent had a chance to try them out yet. I get the impression that the field of view is going to be even smaller than I was expecting. I will let you know how they are once I get them running.
