All 74th members you see in this screenshot are not on the server. 13 pilots missing from the LYNX Server Lax Brevity channel.

I'll play Devil's Advocate and state the obvious.........:P

You cannot have 18 people on the same TS channel at the same time......Recipe for disaster and unadulterated chaos!

Best-case scenario would have one divide Operational Flights into 3-ships. You're looking at 6 flights (18 members) and accordingly a TS structure to cater for six comms channels for the respective flights.

Now that would be effective :)

Yep fairplay Viper, but not to get into semantics here, had they all jumped on I would have created the channels and flights etc. Fact is, there is potential there for a few natural leaders to come out.

No Teamspeak presence = no possibility.

The Chat channel in sim was like a dating channel! - active, very active.

;-)

On the plus side, stress testing LYNX, massivley impressed. Less than 30% CPU overhead, cool, and stable. Great stuff.

Just re-read your post.

Makes perfect sense, and I will change our TS before we open the server to the public again to facilitate this. Lets see what happens as an experiment.

Thanks

Sorry man been out of the picture for quite awhile updating my competition site..

What ??? Is TAR's:music_whistling:

Straight from their website "TARS stands for Tactical Aviation Radio System and is a combination plugin for Teamspeak 3 and mod for DCS A-10C Warthog and DCS Black Shark. Its purpose is to allow players to use the in-game radios to communicate with fellow players in the multiplayer environment. By removing the need for channel switching and channel management policies, you can spend more time concentrating on your gaming and less time worrying about the configuration of your Teamspeak channels."

The latest version of TS3 doesn't work with TARS, headspace (the creator) is working to update TARs so it will work with it.

I couldn't agree with you more, Tyger, but it is a difficult problem to solve. How do you get random people to join a teamspeak server? You can ask them nicely, even try to peer pressure them once you've got a couple people on. But with player counts that large it is quite possible there is already a group of players on their own private server, not saying or communicating or otherwise completing ignoring the rest of the server population who is trying to work together. (That is my own greatest pet peeve. Join the server-provided teamspeak and make your own mini-channel, guys! At least you'll be a part of the larger group!)

And if you're on a public server that doesn't have a dedicated teamspeak, it's even worse trying to convince people to join an ad hoc one. What I wouldn't give for some kind of integration with the game itself - not even an entire VOIP system, but anything, to try to encourage people. Sigh. I can dream. :)

The server was smooth and pings perfectly reasonable even across the pond when I hopped in briefly to watch and listen to some of you doing refueling. Very impressive and well done. I need to work on that myself yet. Somehow most tankers I try practicing on end up in a fireball of one form or another. Entirely coincidental though, I'm sure of it!

Edit: I know about TARS and have used it myself. It is incredible and really adds to the immersion. But by its very nature of requiring more software, it only makes the problem of getting public players into a teamspeak server even more difficult. Obviously for a private server there's no harm in using it though.

Dear Tyger,

just a short reply to yesterday evening.

For the first time ever (?) there had been 18 people flying dcs-a10 on one server which had been one of the greatest multiplayer experience for me in a while. You should be proud of this, because the server was crowded and stable.

Don´t be too harsh with people not joining your TS3 server, probably they will soon enough. But PLEASE don´t force clients to do this and that, after all it´s a leisure-time sim/game. :) People behaved totally nicely yesterday, no teamkills, no friendly fire, although the strike was probably not that effective as a TS3 based attack-group would have been...

For instance, I was talking to my girlfriend in the background, and had 2 phonecalls during the online session. So usually I do not have a problem with joining a TS3 server, but sometimes it just doesn´t work out. Don´t take it personal ! :)

Plus the fact that english isn´t the native language of many players, so probably language based groups could help some people.

Greetings

That's why we use Ventrilo and set up whisper to other channels and also have TS set up. So if we hop into a server with TS, we can be on our Vent and TS at the same time. We can only talk to our squad/flight or to everyone. We have been doing this for years now and it works great for us.

You can set up multi-server whispers with TS3 as well.

Yea, but we have a ventrilo server that's paid for. Also the members of the squad liked vent better then TS. Although it seems that ever other squad likes TS better. We did try TS out for a bit, but Vent works better for some people in our squad with their sound cards and buttkickers.

Vent was far better until TS3 came along. Don't know why TS2 was so bad compared to TS3 regarding sound quality, but there you go.

TS3 is good, but we went back to vent for other reasons.

Ventrilo still has more functionality... sound quality they are pretty much the same now (TS2 used to be just crap in this regard) but lack of many effects and most imprtantly in Ventrilo you can setup sond outout to any channel you want and this is most usefull with buttkicker setups as you really don't want your ass rumbling when someone talks ;)

With Teamspeak/TARS, can one playback the sound after a mission and watch the trk file in sync, assuming you launch both simultaneously?

Scheffen and Ironstrike thanks for your comments. Understood Scheffen.

I think the way forward is to follow 159th_vipers advice.

I will create the channels in Teamspeak and if people use them they use them. In the end it got up to 13 people in teamspeak showing that the majority of pilots (in this little experiment), WOULD jump on teamspeak EVEN on an open server. Now that....................is interesting.

The server (LYNX) will remain as an open server until the end of her Stress Test (This evening 2000 GMT). She will then be taken offline to be resited at another location / her permanent home. Thereafter, she will be stress tested again - Open Server.

After her move and test, She will then go back to Closed / Open server, but based on the quality of pilot online last night, it is a possibility that we open up at least once a week.

Jim, hi.

Yep.

You can record the sound in teamspeak whilst you are ín the mission' so to speak. Both can be mixed together in seperate channels in a good Video prog - Sony Vegas Pro 9 for example.
