The very first thing I can remember that maybe brought me to love aviation was a model plane of my father that he has build during his time in the NVA (national people army loosly translated, the former army of the german democratic republic.) He had no remote control stuff so we tuned the rudder a bit to one side and let him go. The name of the plane was schwalbe and it had about 1,60 meter wingspan made of pure wood and paper and it took around 20 mins until it came down again after a pretty nice flight(without control). It was a bit broken afterwards but I repaired it and itś still a in a nice condition to do it again but we better keep it at the ground to avoid damage.

It was awesome because he launched it with the knowledge it won't return just that I can see it fly.

Many other events like flying an tornado on a Bundeswehr simulator led me one by one to the guy I am today.

Just curious how you guys came that long way since not even one of my friends are into aviation that much. :pilotfly:

I don't know exactly what was my turning point. But from my childhood, I had a fascination for Mig-29. My dad was in publications division in Ministry of Defense and I used to read many articles on military planes. And my interest grew more and more. Hollywood also has played some role.

MSFS 1. Actually, I've been looking at airplanes since I was about 3 (or so my folks tell me). Ever since I was a little kid I wanted to fly, and at 16 I soloed, 17 got my license, and been stuck with flying since. I should mention I'll be 33 in August.

Walking into Incredible Connection (South African PC retail chain) back in 2003 or thereabouts and seeing an IL-2 Sturmovik display-stand with the SIM running on a PC ready for test-flights.

Flying was never something that interested me much when I was younger. I'm 23 btw. My interest in this is something that has come up in the last few years. It's basically come out of my interest for politics, geography and history. The concept of being able to project power on a large area. My interest has also widened a bit to include the technical aspects of it. Flight simulators let me explore this interest further. Microsoft Flight Simulator 98 and Janes F-15 did not hook me. Il-2 was just for fun. Lock On opened my eyes and DCS got me.

My interest for combat aircraft came to me when i was 7 years old.

My Father was an weapons handler , working on the F-104G Starfighter of the German Navy ( MFG-1 ) , I heard lot's of stories regarding his experiences, and I got bitten by the model-building bug from then on.

Gradually i read more and more books, learned English to read more books , and when the computer age came, man..... the flight sim ( games....) era took of .

Flew the first Falcon by a friend , blue sky, green mountains ,pink ground , and the migs were just a bunch of pixels that had the shape of a mig-21 , fond memories : to do stuff you read about, and try it on the PC : like firing an aim-9 L head on and kill the mig !, I went from " gee, it REALLY works! "

The first gun kill , also very memorable , considering that you were banking and jinking with the keyboard ( man,o, man ! ) , and look were we are now: HOTAS,Rudders, Track IR !

As far back as I can recall there were only two things I loved when I was growing up in that chit hole: cats and fighter jets.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Interesting to hear other people's stories... for me my first "contact" with aircraft was when I was about 8-9 years old, my dad bought me a small plastic model of SAAB fighter aircraft that I put together... he took me to an airshow once and next thing I remember was being 12 or so and saw Top Gun and that was it, I was determined to go to military school and become a pilot. This never happened (me becoming a pilot) for a few reasons but that about explains why I love aircraft and flight sims... they just do it for me!

My first flight sim was I think Longbow, then I had that EF-2000, US Navy Fighters, MSFS, Gunship!, Falcon 4 and then IL-2 (and was hooked to IL-2 for a few years) then I got into LockOn, FC/FC2 and finally DCS... future should be good too with getting older (and hopefully wiser) having more money to spend on my hobby ;)
