I wouldn't agree that the questions were slanted to the left though - this model was invented (in 10-question format) by a libertarian thinktank. I would however agree that a few questions were sloppy and remained open to interpretation - there were cases where I had to debate whether I should respond to the letter of the question or what I felt was the intent of the question.

And before anyone gets enthusiastic:

I've got my eyes on this thread, and the slightest trouble will be met with a 1.7 warning. Just enjoy the test for what it is but don't you dare start a fight. ;)

Bit further left than i though.... think i landed on Ghandi.

It was a fun test though, thanks for the link.

remained open to interpretation - there were cases where I had to debate whether I should respond to the letter of the question or what I felt was the intent of the question.

Had a few of those cases as well.

Naaah. I'll stick to collecting names of those commies that came out :D

OK. In my case it comes in two parts:

part 1 - probably somewhere right. Concepts of nation (identity), ancestry etc.

part 2 - political views close to of those who are on somebody's weapon cross hairs. Straight to the point, no BS.

That said classifications like that are often constraining. People watch a documentary like Inside Job (2010) and they're like "Oooh, I won't go with those arguments. The movie is so leftie" instead of trying to do assess the arguments. Or "Oooh, I won't even discuss immigration. It's so far right. Not to mention that classification scripts like this one, fun nonetheless, often fail e.g. by moving the subject immediately a good step left if he only doesn't like bankers.

It also depends on specific home country situation e.g. if your government turns your country into bordello you won't be such a defendor of the state anymore, now will ya? :D

Way too simplified. :P

(Though on the note of Inside Job, I mostly agree with it. Crossref with my answer to the poll. :P )

Go on, do it. :D

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! :megalol: This is bu*t!

pcgraphpng.php?ec=-6.88&soc=1.18

The main problem is that economical and ideological (views) classification should be separate :)

Some excerpts:

It is regrettable that many personal fortunes are made by people who simply manipulate money and contribute nothing to their society.

+++++

Governments should penalise businesses that mislead the public.

+++++

All authority should be questioned.

+ (Government authority that is.)

Although the electronic age makes official surveillance easier, only wrongdoers need to be worried.

-----

How bad the script is? It obviously equalize being against corporations to being a socialist. For example it has put me on the left even though only the part about corporations is true while I would probably happily starve some lazy people ;) I also strongly disagree that everyone has right to his own views. Only those who are able to defend it in a discussion i.e. not everything (not much, for that matter) is a matter of opinion. It shows how leftie I am, BTW, plus my not-that-leftie attitude towards military service and draft matters :D

The imperfection of such classifications made me find a way around it in my teenage years / early 20's. When asked about political views I used to say that "I'm in opposition to stupidity" :P

Don't think of it as left/right in the traditional sense. This thing (well, the original) was built precicely to get away from that. But essentially you have this:

Left/Right is con/pro capitalism, and authoritarian/libertarian is con/pro social freedoms.

That said, there are places where I agree it's too simplified. For example, I don't see how penalizing companies for misleading the public has anything to do with left or right. Fraud is fraud. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone who feels fraud is okey. :P

So really don't think of it as trying to give gospel truth, it's just a fun little thing that lets us compare scores as given by that specific test. :)

Exactly what I was about to say! Rationale - not naming conventions. I but Bernanke and alikes would love to see us spending all our time on figuring out the political views graphs instead of learning about the big picture :)

It's because of stereotypes people think that only hippies are against GMO...

I'll be bailing out, if I may use that term ;) , so let me leave you with few interesting resources

It is biased and contains a lot of biased questions, speaking from the scientific point of view.

Example:

"A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system."

This argument MUST be answered as "strongly agree". If there is no opposition, decisions are made quickly. However, the question implied, here, is a totally different.

Same is true for several questions stated, that tend to extremes. That's okay, but not in combination with the second disadvantage of this test: It's missing the necessary counterquestions for a neutral and scientific approach.

So, scientifically it's just as valid as a "Am I happy with my mate"-Questionary in an ordinary housewife-magazine.
