A few questions needed in simple terms: :joystick:

1)Mils wtheck is Mils can anyone just tell me a simple definition of mils...

Such as its 2 meters feet or whatever. Can one give me an example of using mils in DCS and how it effective and when used. Do you use it?

2)Vertical and Horizontal Offset: offsets off what? the bomb or rockets impact area? it shows -15 to +15 adjustments (NOW is -15 to 15 USING MILS??)if not what measurement...Now can where and why would I use this. An example would be fabulous.

3)Weapons Eject velocity. explain...it says -10 to +10 <--Mils??? why and when would I use this. Example please:helpsmilie:

4)Bomb rack delay. Now it seems logical I think it means you put in the UFC .25 <---time measurement right? and it a quarter of a second the 2nd bomb drops off rack to target...Is this correct?

Thanks

MILS is a measurement of angle like degrees. It is used primarily by the military. There are about 17 mils in a degree. (google it) A one mil angle measured at 1000 meters is equal to one meter. This makes it handy for measuring distance etc....

The MGRS and Mils work together.

The A-10 crew chiefs can fill in about the weapons systems questions.

Hope that helps.

1) Google can answer this better than I. I do not use mils within the sim so not sure how or when to use it. RL aircraft, is a easy way for pilots to size targets and aim at them, specially if there is not TGP installed on the aircraft. This can also be used to range targets.

I'm not 100% on this but here we go;

offsets off what?

2) Of aim point, uses Mils. Not one aircraft will bomb the same way. Small twist in airframe, pylons wear, etc will cause the aircraft boresight to be slightly off, this helps correct that

Weapons Eject velocity

3) I believe this is not implemented. RL pilot is letting the aircraft know how fast that weapons is suppose to be thrown away from the aircraft so the computer can aim more accurately. In RL this setting does not affect the weapons itself, only tells the aircraft to help aim

4)Bomb rack delay

4) Same thing as three

Keep in mind I'm no expert, simply trying to get you an answer. Hopefully, one of the more knowledgeable guys can help you understand this.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

In addition to the above, mil is short for Milliradian, so the thousandth part of a Radian. Radian in term is a measurement of angle, but the difference to degrees is that the circle is not divided into a number of degrees, but radian is simply the ratio of arc lenght and radius. So for the full circle, this gives you 2*pi radian, half circle are pi radian asf.

Also every station can have a different correction so how can a profile for many bombs have one correction? Shouldn't the correction be for the inventory page?

This is what puzzled me the most. These settings are in an area that makes one think that the pilot might actually have a need/reason to change them. If they are, for the most part, adjustments to accomodate imperfections in the munition or airframe then I would think that crews that maintain the aircraft would be the ones, with the requisite knowlege, making such changes. Especially since the pilots do not always fly the same aircraft every single mission.

This is just my perception based on limited facts.:D

What I agree on is, that the manual leaves a lot of open questions for the user, no matter how experienced. What I do not agree on is the thread-title. Once you decide to dive into a topic like military aviation, or even aviation in general, you'll have to look up some technical terms here and there. That's simply as it is.

:smartass:

But feel absolutely free to ask your questions here. As seen in the posts above you'll most likely get an answer.
