NeedToKow Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I was about to buy this game today but just read that it is 64 bit.? Is that true. My Vista 32 will not run it? My system is powerful enough but I can not upgrade to 64bit at this time... Looked like my kind of sim. "Character is much easier kept than recovered." MTFDarkEagle Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 It wil run on 32bit, but you won't have the 64bit advantages. Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
EtherealN Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 It will run on 32-bit, but may require tweaking. As the FAQ states, it is strongly recommended to use 64-bit but a 32-bit executable set is provided. There are some entries in the FAQ that provides help with some of the expected problems when running on 32-bit. Looks incredible! I do have 4 cores and GTX card...so not totally sucky system. I have always been a fan of "you can't make it to complicated/realistic" flight sims. WarriorX Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Win 7 Professional has a feature where you can run any program requiring an XP environment by using the Virtual Machine. The Virtual Machine runs XP in a virtual environment (sandbox), all from the desktop of your Win 7 OS. I have found however, that I have only needed to use it once, as all the other legacy XP/Vista 32 bit programs I have had no trouble running in Win 7 64 bit. Kuky Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 You need to do one thing now that you're gonna get hooked... get Windows 7 64bit, and since you're running the business you need a TrackIR also, unless you have one already ;) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
Eddie Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 No need to buy 64bit Win 7, you just need to get hold of a 64bit install disc (or image). Win 7 licence keys are valid for both 32 and 64 bit versions of the OS.
NeedToKow Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 Ok I am hooked!! The deeper I get into this sim the more I am AMAZED! I have flown sims since the Apple 2 Flight sim 1 came out. I have flown: Falcons F16 all of them, all MS Combat simulator and most recently the Superbug for FSX. Nothing comes close to this. Maybe we have flown together on multiplayer before. I am known as "Great Santini" So yeap I am looking into everything for the experience. I am going to upgrade my OS, ordering TrackIR 5, I might skip the Thrustmaster since I have a Cougar that I rebuilt with better parts...I may change that in the future. Hey TrackIr guys one question: I am getting the TrackIR 5 should I get TrackClip Pro or the Vector Pro? I will say that the sim runs great and perfectly smooth on my OS/system. But turning up some settings would be interesting to see. I currently am on teamspeak with a few guys for Battlefeild BC2 and we own our own BFBC2 server. They do not want to get into this sim as they can not afford the investment of the sticks and such. I want to practice and get better (landed many times yesterday without blowing tires) and then would love to get in on the multiplayer and TS with a good group. (non abusive, professional acting adults who use military style communication) A bit about my history: My best friend is a pilot for VFC-111 (F5 Adversary squadron) and I have been his roommate through all of his training from T34, to T45 and with him the moment he was picked for the F18 pipeline. We have loads of videos from his last years fights at top gun. From his takeoffs, to engagements, to landings. I have flown the real sims at Miramar when he was an LSO instructor for the Marines. I was also lucky to get to deploy on the Nimitz during flight operations. I have a lot to contribute for a good squadron. They must be adults and highly professional (but still like to have fun...of coarse) If the developers read this thread - guys I bow down to you. Amazing work! I wish you success and longevity. Laud Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 LOL! On fire... Really gives me a big smile, reading your post! Have fun and I'm sure you'll find a squadron which meets your demands. EtherealN Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Welcome to the fold. :D On the note of squadrons, there's a directory thread over in the Multiplayer section of the forum. Might help you look at what's out there. Not all squads actively advertise there, but many do.
