parxuk Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Hello Have lurked here for 6 weeks or so since buying the A10, and have just been trying to absorb as much info as possible, but boy is this one big game. Have so far just been playing the instant action missions, and eventually getting on OK with them. I want to start progressing now in to the missins though. Have a couple of quick questions, sorry, i am sure they have been asked before: 1. If i want to start a mission like Devils Cross on the runway is that possible? I know fo some this seems wrong and that you should start from cold and dark, but i dont have enough "game playing" time on an evening with other commitments to sit there for 10 minutes starting the hog up. I would much rather just be able to jump in with everything running and off i go. 2. I get shot down a lot. I want to put my CSMS (?) in to full auto, but when i do that it just gets rid of all my chaff and flares in seconds. I know i can set it to the next one down (Standby??), and manually adjust the program, but then i obviously have to remember to press the appropriate buttons, and being new in the heat of the battle with lots of other stuff going on i usually forget, and the next thing i know my tails missing and i am going down. Is there a way to limit the amount of C&F get banged out on auto? 3. Upon finishing a mission (if i do keep my tail attached to the plane), what do you do to end it? Once back at the runway do you have to park where you started, or just stick it anywhere?? Mud Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 1) You can open the mission with the mission editor and change your flight's start position to the runway instead of the ramp. 2) This is difficult to answer briefly. The best thing you can do is to avoid being engaged by SAM's by not flying in their engagement envelope. Flying high often helps (depending on the SAM's you're encountering). 3) It's normally enough to land and go to a full stop. This depends a bit on how the mission was created. But that will do in most cases, and it's what I do when I can't be arsed to shut down the plane completely on the ramp. Please notice that with the Semiauto setting the CSMS will automatically select the correct ECM and countermeasures programs; all you need to manually do is: - turn on/off the ECM - start/stop dispensing the countermeasures Everything else is handled by the jet computer.

Is there a way to limit the amount of C&F get banged out on auto? Semi-automatic is the next step down; below that is manual and then standby. In semi-automatic mode, the CMS will automatically select what it thinks is the best countermeasure program at any given situation, but actually activating the program is left to the pilot. When you hear the launch warning and you think it might be something heading your way, you press the HOTAS CMS UP/FWD (not sure how it's labeled) to start the program (which will have been automatically selected by the CMS). You can use CMS DOWN/BACK to stop it prematurely if you feel safe. You'll also need to manually activate the jammer, using HOTAS CMS IN/PRESS. In manual mode, you have to select and engage the program yourself. This can be useful if you know what threats you're facing in order to prevent the system selecting another program, but generally semi- or full-automatic are the best choices.
parxuk Posted July 25, 2011 Author Posted July 25, 2011 Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. Few questions if i may: It's normally enough to land and go to a full stop. This depends a bit on how the mission was created. But that will do in most cases, and it's what I do when I can't be arsed to shut down the plane completely on the ramp. No points deducted for this then?? You end the mission by exiting the sim. You can use the ' key (between ; and enter) to see your current mission score. Above 50 is victory. Below 50 is defeat. Didnt know about that key thanks. Is the scoring that simple, just get over 50? (obviously with the aim to complete the mission successfully. Please notice that with the Semiauto setting the CSMS will automatically select the correct ECM and countermeasures programs; all you need to manually do is: - turn on/off the ECM - start/stop dispensing the countermeasures Everything else is handled by the jet computer. So this will set it to AAA, SAM1, SAM2, etc. and the appropriate dispenser program, i just hit the button?? Irregular programming Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 At least some of the Devils cross missions are timed for a cold start, so even if you start earlier you would still need to wait for SEAD strikes and such, but I think it's a non issue if you don't feel the need of getting 100% on them. I believe all DC missions have a get to target area, remain there a set time and return to base for it to be counted as a success.
winz Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Didnt know about that key thanks. Is the scoring that simple, just get over 50? (obviously with the aim to complete the mission successfully. Thanks for your kind help Yes. Here is how the campaign system works. The mission creator can use trigged events to award you some points. When you exit the mission, the campaign engine looks at how many points you got, and if you have more then 50, it will advance to the next stage. If you have 50, the campaign will stay at the same stage. If you have less then 50 the campaign will move one stage backwards. One stage can have multiple missions assigned to it, the campaign engine will randomly choose one of them. That way, even if you are forced to replay the same stage, you'll not have to play the same mission (if multiple mission for a single stage are created by the campaign maker). This way a pseudo-dynamic campaign can be created. The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
