DCS WH - Sale - Steam or Here?

Hello,

 

I am, probably, now in a position to start putting a bit of time back into simulators after my hiatus, so I thought I would pick up A10.

 

I notice there is currently a sale on both here and on Steam. Steam has it for £19.99 and it's about £24.50 here (assuming todays exchange rate).

 

I bought BS direct from ED, but I quite like the idea of Steam (got it, but never bought anything as usually the deals have ended when I get home to buy them).

 

But apart from the £4.50 saving, are there any disadvantages/advantages to the steam version?

 

For instance:

 

1. Are the patches released at the same time?
   
2. Do the mods work?
   
3. Does ModMan work?
   
4. Is there anything different about the releases?
   

Sorry if this has been posted before, but there are quite a few new posts since I last really looked at this forum :D

You can buy on Steam and use the activation code to use on the version DLed from ED. That way you get the best of both (cheaper price from Steam and quicker patches/ease of modding from ED)

So I basically just use Steam to purchase it and then just get it from ED?

 

Will the DL be available from ED? I can't remember back to when I got DS, but I don't remember the link being available until I purchased it on there page.

I would buy it directly from ED as more of the money goes directly to the company which in turn will provide increased revenue for ED and will lead to more products.

I just got it off steam. I suddenly remembered my bank doesn't use the actual exchange rate, they like to add bits. So after I ran it through there calculator it was nearly £30, Steam was the obvious choice then.

hi yeah i would say steam as my bank charged me a few pound for the exchange rate or something like that.

but as someone else just said IF u did buy it from ED they would get more of the cash( Not sure how much steam take? anyone?)

That was my point though, it's not the same price, not for me in the UK anyway. The site sells in USD, I am in the UK so USD has to be converted to GBP and then the banks add all there little extras. It ended up at about £30.

 

Steam sell in your local currency (for the "popular" countries anyway), in my case GBP, so what you see is what you pay. As in £19.99, this is on top of it already being cheaper than ED where selling it anyway.

 

And I agree, I wanted to give ED my money directly and if it was just a couple of £ I would have done so, but I am trying to save the pennies at the moment, so I had to take the Steam route.

 

Sorry ED... I do feel like I have betrayed you slightly :(

I always wanted to give more to ED but I was waiting for that dreadful $60 price to go down. It went down so I bought it :)

 

Too bad it's not like with the ArmA 2 developers. They offer pretty much the lowest prices at their store http://www.sprocketidea.com/joomla/ compared to other sotres.

The way for all of us to pay back ED. for making such a Great Peace of Software is to spread the news, Show your friends and family this Artfully Created Product, increase sales will add to the longevity and more product releases, potentialy anyway and Warthog improvements and maybe later a few add ons.
