A little while ago, maybe a year now,I heard that there was going to be a stand alone sim by DCS on the Apache, like there has been for the 'Black Shark',does anyone know if this is still in the pipeline?

It's not the next DCS product.

To be a bit more elaborate:

The Apache plan is very very old - it actually predates ED getting the OK to make a DCS A-10C instead of DCS A-10A. A lot of things have changed since then.

It's and f-18E. I cannot wait. Fell in love with it at the Melbourne airshow 2yrs ago when Ricardo did a demo.
Me myself would love to fly Super Hornet as well, but I wouldn't be so sure of it until ED officially announce the next DCS. ED only mentioned that it will be popular U.S. fixed wing which mean there are chance it could be Viper or Eagle was well. :joystick:

Eth regardless of the next model, it must be a nightmare to get rights, cockpit layouts etc etc for dcs?

I wouldn't know exactly how that process goes. Layouts etcetera are probably fairly easy though - just go to an airshow and take a couple photos. :P

The "big deal" is getting sources for systems modeling and the flight model. These are hard to make happen both as far as getting accesss and even with access to just make models of everything that works as expected. It gets even worse with specific systems (ECM and ECCM for example - the only thing more secret than those is Stealth...) and weapons.

A lot depends on platform though. Black Shark, for example, is almost entirely 80's hardware which makes things easier than if it had been a Ka-52 or AH-64D.

I still think that for the US Fixed wing, it could also be the O-2 Birddog, best seen in the movie Bat21. Now THAT was a true AFAC, and fun to fly (I've actually flown one, and a civ C-337 a few times)

F15E, F/A18 or F16 block 52 would work :)

But the best would obviously be JAS 39 Gripen C ;)

I think it will one of the first three you listed.

F/A 18 would be the logical step. It's built from scratch to do both ground an air attacks.

And multiplayer will be awesome when you have human SEAD and CAP. Combined with BS AFAC and A-10 CAS, things will be truly amazing! And the missions will be massive!

So have I, many many many times... We called the the O-2A the "Duck" - and I've seen the movie Bat21 at least 30 times over the years; a great Gene Hackman/Danny Glover flick... :pilotfly:
