112th_Rossi Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Last night I was playing a mission and I somehow managed to put the TGP in a mode where the aiming 'box' turned into a large white crosshair with the TGP angle indicator moving in a kind of 30 degree search pattern. Sorry for my vauge description, what is this mode? And how to I get out of it. I think it might be some kind of JTAC laser detection mode?
Amarok_73 Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 This is Laser Search mode, and You can enable it by pressing LSS OSB button in TGB display or pressing DMS right long. Eddie Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Sounds like LSS (Laser Spot Search). To enter/exit LSS just hit DMS right long with the TGP as SOI or press the LSS OSB (OSB 2 or 3 IIRC).

Even though indicators are RIGHT there, I still forget what is SOI and end up changing waypoints instead of zooming in/out TGP
WildBillKelsoe Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Last night I was playing a mission and I somehow managed to put the TGP in a mode where the aiming 'box' turned into a large white crosshair with the TGP angle indicator moving in a kind of 30 degree search pattern. Sorry for my vauge description, what is this mode? And how to I get out of it. I think it might be some kind of JTAC laser detection mode? Nothing unusual. Just the LSS (Laser Spot Search). Basically, what the TGP is now doing, is that its looking for friendly unit lasing a target using LSS Code 1688 (preset), LCD (Laser Code Designator) 1688 as well. To exit this mode, press C on the keyboard. This should boresight the TGP. Have your target area at 10 or 2 o'klock position, and this roughly translates to 30 degrees on the HSI, roughly the HSI mark next to bearing zero. Be sure to know which side the TGP is on and make the AO to that side, or the TGP will have your fuselage in the screen, obscuring the battlefield. Alternately, you may use the JTAC coordinates to slew the TGP to it, and I mean the Lat/Long coordinates, sometimes the UTM gives you an area, and not an actual target in view. Nevermind, slew the TGP withing that area using FLIR mode, and you should have some rusty 30mm magnets tracks on the scope. :smilewink: AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. sobek Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 If the search isn't 360 then how do you pick the center? By pointing your plane. How come the view doesn't go crazy while it's looking around? The video output is probably frozen. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
WildBillKelsoe Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 By pointing your plane. The video output is probably frozen. You dont want the TGP to view its seeker image on searching. It will eff up your fps, and you'll be discomforted by having to look at something turning nuts ... I engage LSS and switch to MAV or CDU page (static page) to avoid lowering FPS. A minute later I check for targets, and in the mean time, look for black dots on the ground, around fires.. Rinse and repeat...
