grinch2020 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I was looking through the list of aircraft and I noticed that they have the E-2D listed. Being an E-2C NFO I was curious if I can expect to see the Delta in game at any point being used for ABCCC or AEW. As an aside, it's interesing that they decided to go with the Delta vice Charlie since the Delta isn't due to be operational for the next few years.
nomdeplume Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I'm not sure, I doubt any of the stock missions use it since the E-2D is a recently added model (and the aircraft is actually listed as E-2C in the sim, but the visible model is the D). The game only has a pretty basic AWACS component though and it's not of particular interest to a Hog driver, so it's not really a significant part of the game.
PhoenixBvo Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 The importance of AWACS will undoubtedly rise though with the release of DCS:<US fixed-wing fighter> [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] CPU i7 4970k @ 4.7 GHz RAM 16GB G.Skill TridentX 1600 ATX ASUS Z97-PRO DSU Samsung 850 PRO 256GB SSD for Win10, Plextor M6e 128GB SSD for DCS exclusively, RAID-1 HDDs GFX Aorus GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Xtreme Edition, ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q, 27" with G-Sync, Oculus Rift CV1 HID TM HOTAS Warthog + 10 cm extension, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR 5, Obutto oZone My TM Warthog Profile + Chart, F-15C EM Diagram Generator
Tailspin45 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Discovered this one while on an anti-ship mission online. Sorry, but haven't a clue what it was called or who hosted it. Blue Skies & Tailwinds tailspinstales.blogspot.com
lubey Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 the E-2D is a recently added model Hmm...A carrier-based AWACS...how interesting. It's looking more and more like an F/A-18 (probably C variant) next up every day now... SPECS: Intel Core i5 760 @ 3.2 Ghz +turboboost enabled, 12 GB DDR3 1600 @ 1500 Mhz, ATI Radeon 5850, TrackIR 5, X52 Pro and Saitek pedals

Just a new model. The E-2C has been in the sim since the beginning of time. Move along, nothing to see here.......

Crescendo Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 (edited) Just a new model. The E-2C has been in the sim since the beginning of time. Move along, nothing to see here....... Yes. Creating a pretty external model for an AI plane such as the E-2 and F-15 is 'easy' (relatively!). I would imagine the hard part is creating, testing, and then re-testing a realistic flight model, simulating and troubleshooting the avionics, and filling the external model with realistic hydraulics, linkages, engines, undercarriage and so on and then making it all damagable etc., and let's not forget the steps I probably missed. With all that in mind, I would imagine having a nice-looking external model is only a small step towards a new DCS module. Like, a very small step even. So, a new external model for the E-2 therefore doesn't necessarily suggest an F-18 module, just as seeing a new external model for the F-15E doesn't necessarily suggest an F-15 module. It might suggest something, but there is literally so much more required to complete a DCS module that it would be foolish to make predications based purely on external models. Maybe ED is just updating external model fidelity to make things look pretty? It could simply be a small part of the never-ending incremental graphical improvements, nothing more. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but I think people should be realistic about what must actually be involved in making these sims. Edited August 18, 2011 by Crescendo 2 . [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
